Vaccine safety is important. Health professionals need to be able to give vaccines appropriately, recognise and respond to adverse events, and communicate well.
On Saturday, we ran an "Immunisation Skills" workshop in Townsville on Wulgurukaba and Bindal country. Convened by Northern Queensland Primary Health Network, we covered adverse event detection, management and reporting, anaphylaxis management, specific needs of migrants and refugees, catch-up schedules, policy, and communication skills from SKAI https://lnkd.in/gauTBwur
This was led by nurses who are experts in their fields, Rachael McGuire | Sarah Duncanson PAEDS Education | Melanie West | Bella Fuller | Rachel Waye | Sarah Goosen | Roxanne Taylor. 🌟

"More than 4,000 Americans have contracted measles since January 2025. Two children and one adult have died. Sixteen states have fallen below the vaccination threshold required to prevent sustained transmission. The United States is at risk of losing its measles elimination status, which it achieved in 2000.
Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a message for the communities at the center of these outbreaks: the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine contains "millions of particles that were created from aborted fetal tissue, millions of DNA fragments." It does not.
He is the nation's chief public health officer. He is making this claim during the worst measles outbreak in more than three decades. He is making it about the one vaccine that could stop that outbreak. And he is directing it at the religious communities—Mennonite, Orthodox, conservative Catholic—in which vaccination rates are lowest and where the current cases are concentrated.
Let’s explore what the manufacturing, regulatory, and scientific records actually show."

Right-wing influencers and commentators are pushing bizarre conspiracies about the rodent-borne illness that has killed three luxury cruise ship passengers.
These figures claim the hantavirus outbreak, which the World Health Organization has confirmed is being transmitted human-to-human on the MV Hondius, will bring about a manufactured global lockdown.

Adjuvants in Vaccines: Enhancing the Immune Response 🧬 Adjuvants are substances added to vaccines to enhance the body’s immune response to an antigen. They help improve the effectiveness of vaccines by stimulating stronger and longer-lasting immunity. By reducing the amount of antigen required and improving immune activation, adjuvants play a crucial role in vaccine design and development. Common examples include aluminum salts and newer formulations used in advanced vaccines. Understanding adjuvants provides insight into how vaccines are optimized for maximum protection. #Adjuvants #Vaccines #Immunology #Biotechnology #MedicalScience

Such a powerful evening with the South Asian community in North East London, reimagining how we talk about vaccines. No lectures. No slides. Instead, dance, singing, poetry, and role play.
Culture, creativity, and conversation coming together in a way that resonates.
We broke bread, shared stories, and built trust- the foundations we need if we’re serious about reducing health inequalities.
The energy in the room said it all: people want more of this. More spaces that feel familiar. More conversations that feel relevant. More community-led approaches that reflect real lives.
For me, it was also deeply personal. Being part of this as someone from the community meant a lot. It’s a reminder that the most meaningful work happens when clinicians show up as part of the communities we serve.
This is what it looks like when health meets culture, and it works.
Well done Riyadul Karim ‘Riyad’ Mbemba Bojang, Kulbinder Mann & Dr. Pedro Pérez Rothstein ❤️ Thanks to Jo Inskip, Jacqueline Walker and Muhammad Naqvi for your support.

What if the problem we are facing right now is not one of MIS-information…..but one of OVER-information?
I recently read that the average person encounters something like 100-150 websites/separate screens of content a DAY.
Heavy users can easily scroll through 1,000+ pieces of content daily.
Are we diagnosing the wrong problem? Does the internet need its own GLP-1….bc it is simply obese with information, both good AND bad?
In fact is what we actually need are more CURATORS of existing good information, sherpas to help us look through what is already available? More coordination and cooperation among the top creators? For instance, there are so many content creators just on hantavirus right now putting out the same headline and article: HERES WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ON HANTAVIRUS.
I would say I encounter good information all the time. But my problem isn’t that: my problem is that there is simply TOO MUCH of it.
Too often the response to bad information is for a content creator to make good information. But I worry that it is missing the overarching crisis of that quintessential American problem: overconsumption.
In this case, can it lead to confusion and lack of overall clarity?
What do you think? Am I getting this wrong?

In absence of any argument, attack the Church ? In absence of any intelligence, attack humour ? If there is any religion here, it is the anti-vaxxer cult, and their guru #petermccullough. The 20 Euro coin was just a coin. One to celebrate COVID vaccination which gave back life to all of us who were affected by the social distancing and the restrictions that came with it. As for the dancing seringues, McCullough Foundation shows having either no humour, intelligence and understanding of irony. But we do understand one thing: the McCullough Foundation is dangerous because of the misinformation it pushes only through right-wing media.

State of Inequality in Childhood Immunization: Monitoring Progress Across Low- and Middle-Income Countries over the Past Decade
By Nicole Bergen, Anne Schlotheuber, Katherine Kirkby, Luisa Arroyave, M. Carolina Danovaro-Holliday, Aluisio J. D. Barros and Ahmad Reza Hosseinpoor
This cover paper analyzes household survey data from up to 92 low- and middle-income countries across nine childhood immunization indicators.
Key findings: - Mother’s education: median coverage differences of 9–14 percentage points - Household economic wealth: largest gaps in low‑income countries - Over the past decade, only modest reductions in economic‑related and place‑of‑residence inequalities (e.g., DTP3: ↓3.25 percentage points)
Conclusion: Persistent inequalities demand targeted policy attention to reach Immunization Agenda 2030 goals.

Digital health doesn't just fail to close health inequalities. It actively makes them worse, unless services are designed from the start to account for how inclusion actually works.
1️⃣ Existing frameworks for digital inclusion focus on individual technologies or cross-sectional snapshots, missing how people's relationships with digital health change over time.
2️⃣ A new framework combines two established concepts: the digital divide (access, literacy, assimilation) and digital transformation (enablement, optimisation, transformation).
3️⃣ Digital access covers infrastructure: internet coverage, speed, cost of devices and data, and it remains unequal across geography, income and ethnicity.
4️⃣ Digital literacy is more than knowing how to use a tool. It includes trust, self-efficacy, awareness of available tools and culturally appropriate training.
5️⃣ Digital assimilation describes the degree to which technology gets embedded into everyday life, and it varies sharply based on personal circumstances and social networks.
6️⃣ Organisations pass through three stages too: enablement (getting data online), optimisation (securing and improving systems), and transformation (restructuring care delivery around digital).
7️⃣ The framework shows that inclusion strategies fail when they treat barriers as fixed rather than evolving alongside both users and services.
8️⃣ 31 papers were reviewed; most evidence on digital inclusion comes from high-income countries, limiting generalisability to low-income and middle-income settings.
9️⃣ Community-based interventions and sustained support for specific populations show the strongest engagement. One-size digital rollouts don't work for underserved groups.
🔟 Policymakers and commissioners need strategies that evolve with their users, not static toolkits designed at a single point in time.

"Package inserts are not medical communication documents; they’re legal communication documents. Vaccine side effects that occur during clinical trials will often appear in the package insert even when those side effects occur at the same rate in those who received placebo. In other words, the vaccine didn’t cause the problem. The rotavirus vaccine provides a perfect example.
The rotavirus vaccine, RotaTeq, was tested in about 72,000 infants in a prospective, placebo-controlled trial. Rotaviruses are a common cause of fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration in infants and young children. Before the vaccine was licensed in the U.S. in 2006, every year about 55,000 to 70,000 children would be hospitalized with severe dehydration caused by rotavirus. The rotavirus vaccine was shown to be about 95% effective at preventing hospitalization. Seizures occurred in 27 of 36,150 (0.07%) vaccine recipients and 18 of 35,536 (0.05%) placebo recipients. These differences were not statistically significant. Nonetheless, seizures are listed in the rotavirus vaccine package insert. Ironically, after the rotavirus vaccine was licensed, large post-licensure studies showed that the vaccine actually decreased the risk of seizures. Because natural rotavirus infection can cause seizures with or without fever, and the rotavirus vaccine prevented natural infection, this wasn’t surprising."

In a new #SciencePolicyArticle, researchers conducted an online experiment using an opt-in sample of 2,989 U.S. adult participants. Participants were randomly exposed to either a consensus-based or uncertainty-based CDC-style statement, and their responses were measured.
They found that exposure to the uncertainty-based message increased perceived vaccine risks and uncertainty, reduced vaccination intentions, lowered trust in the CDC, and increased endorsement of science-denial strategies. These effects occurred regardless of participants’ political orientation.
“Overall, the findings underscore the responsibility of public health institutions to communicate scientific uncertainty in ways that protect, rather than inadvertently weaken, population health,” write the authors.

Some of the most important work mothers do happens quietly — researching, asking questions, weighing risks, and making decisions they hope will protect their children for years to come.
At Physicians for Informed Consent, we believe families should have access to transparent, referenced information on infectious diseases and vaccines before making those decisions.
This Mother’s Day, we recognize the moms who take the time to ask questions, read the science, and make informed choices for their families.

"Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s confirmation as Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) marked a paradigm shift in public health governance. As lead litigation counsel for Children’s Health Defense, Kennedy filed nearly 30 federal and state lawsuits challenging vaccine authorizations and mandates. Now, at the helm of the nation’s health apparatus, he has aggressively exercised his executive authority to undermine vaccine policy.1 Although federal and state vaccine policies can be reversed by policymaking, judicial rulings are far more enduring. Perhaps for this reason, antivaccine organizations expanded their advocacy to the judiciary. The resulting vaccine litigation strategy could have profound public health consequences, dismantling a century-old legal framework that balances individual liberty with the common good."

An outbreak of the deadly hantavirus on a Dutch-flagged cruise ship is reviving conspiracy theories about vaccines, alleged depopulation campaigns and miracle cures that flourished during the Covid pandemic.
DOH: Monitoring, preparations in place for hantavirus The multilingual misinformation, which dominated online discourse and disrupted public health responses to the coronavirus, resurged even as the World Health Organization insisted Friday that there remained minimal risk to the general public from passengers of the MV Hondius.
"LOCKDOWN ALERT: Globalists Launch Covid 2.0 As Hantavirus Spreads Worldwide," InfoWars founder Alex Jones said on X. "Just Like A Light Switch."
A flurry of similar posts declared the outbreak a "plandemic" -- borrowing from the title of a widely discredited pseudo-documentary from 2020 that pushed falsehoods about Covid.
