Truth with a Twist: The Rhetoric of Persuasion in Professional vs. Community-Authored Fact-Checks (arXiv):

Glimpse: This study offers the first extensive comparison of the persuasive strategies employed in professionally produced versus crowdsourced debunks. It assesses the frequency and kinds of persuasive tactics in various fact-checking ecosystems by utilizing large datasets from Community Notes, EUvsDisinfo, and the Database of Known Fakes. The results demonstrate no greater average usage of persuasion techniques than professional fact-checks, challenging the notion that crowd-written debunks depend more heavily on subjective or persuasive language. Simultaneously, the analysis finds systemic rhetorical disparities associated with topical attention and institutional standards. It also shows that crowd assessors successfully penalize the employment of rhetorically problematic approaches, even if more persuasive remarks tend to obtain slightly higher helpfulness ratings.

Vaccines Save Lives…

In this world where anti-vaxxers with loud megaphones pollute the social
media ether with disinformation, misinformation and outright conspiracies, push untested “wellness” alternatives (at a profit on their websites), and insist that the right to choose overpowers the need to protect - it is helpful to recognize the outsized impact childhood vaccines have had on lives saved.

Adding insult to injury is the inexplicable choice to the most important public health position in government to an environmental lawyer with a history of bizarre behaviors - dropping a bear cub carcass in Central Park, beheading a whale with a chainsaw or self debating himself - a declared anti-vaxxer with zero medical knowledge (“I don’t think people should be taking advice - medical advice from me”) who is on a baseless and capricious power trip to “reshape” the CDC and FDA, prioritizing ideology over scientific evidence.

Well, I shall let the data speak for itself…..

A new ethics policy paper from the American College of Physicians argues that referring to physicians as “providers” undermines the ethical foundation of the patient‑physician relationship and fails to reflect physicians’ training, responsibilities, and professional role.

Quand Louis Fouché relaie ce contenu, il ne s’agit pas juste d’un coup de pub culturel :
➡️ il contribue à légitimer ces récits
➡️ auprès d’un public déjà sensible aux discours alternatifs
➡️ en brouillant la frontière entre :
fiction / croyance / réalité scientifique.

C’est exactement le même mécanisme que pour :
• la santé « alternative »,
• les récits d’expériences extraordinaires non démontrées,
• les figures présentées comme témoins plutôt que comme auteurs de fiction.

On est dans une stratégie de normalisation :
📌 « ce n’est qu’une BD »
📌 « ce n’est qu’un témoignage »
📌 « ce n’est que du partage »

… alors que ça diffuse un imaginaire présenté comme crédible.

Je remercie l’Université du Rwanda et le Regional Centre of Excellence for Vaccines pour l’opportunité de suivre le cours Immunization Supply Chain Management, qui m’a permis d’approfondir la compréhension des mécanismes essentiels au fonctionnement des programmes de vaccination.

La vaccination joue un rôle central dans la prévention, le contrôle et l’élimination des maladies, contribuant directement au renforcement de la sécurité sanitaire mondiale.
Cette efficacité repose sur des mécanismes souvent invisibles mais déterminants : planification, chaîne du froid, logistique, gestion des données et coordination multi-acteurs.

Renforcer les systèmes d’immunisation, c’est renforcer la resilience de nos systèmes de santé.

Here is a really excellent piece by the staff of the vaccine integrity project about the how the current administration places ideology on vaccines over saving lives. Trust is a necessary ingredient for successful vaccination efforts and requires rigorous science and not conspiracy theories. Do Americans really want to let 1.2 million children die because of debunked conspiracies? Where is the accountability in our government? #vaccineswork but only if we use them.

One of the most striking things about recent measles coverage isn’t just the outbreaks themselves—it’s when consensus suddenly reappears.

As cases rise, the messaging becomes clearer: measles is dangerous, vaccination matters, and prevention works.

This pattern shows up again and again in public health.
We debate and delay preventive action when the threat feels distant. But once consequences are visible—hospitalizations, outbreaks, deaths—expert guidance feels easier to accept.

The challenge is that prevention only works before the crisis.
By the time urgency sets in, options are fewer and the stakes are higher.

Measles isn’t unique in this way—it’s just a particularly clear reminder that trust in expertise matters most upstream, long before emergencies force our hand.

Immunofitness in older adults: vaccination as a pillar of healthy aging

Aging reshapes the immune system through immunosenescence and inflammaging, increasing vulnerability to infections and their downstream consequences. In our recent review, we propose immunofitness as a practical and achievable goal for healthy aging — and highlight adult vaccination as one of its most powerful tools.
Beyond preventing specific infections, vaccines can strengthen immune resilience, support trained immunity, and reduce clinically meaningful outcomes such as hospitalizations, cardiovascular events, and mortality. Evidence across influenza, RSV, pneumococcal, COVID-19, and herpes zoster vaccines consistently shows benefits that go well beyond pathogen-specific protection.
Embedding routine, age-appropriate vaccination into preventive care — together with lifestyle measures — is a feasible, high-impact strategy to promote healthier aging and better quality of life.

Let's take a look at all of the kids who have died in the latest measles outbreak in Israel - kids who were previously healthy and unvaccinated.

Kenya is watching life-saving human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines expire on the shelves, even as cervical cancer continues to kill thousands of women every year.
According to obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Nelly Bosire, the country is “not doing very well” in meeting the World Health Organisation’s 2030 elimination target. The paradox is that the vaccine is free and widely available, yet demand remains dangerously low.
To accelerate uptake, the Ministry of Health has transitioned from a two-dose to a single-dose human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine schedule for children aged 10 to 14.
