It might seem that those people who drag their family heirlooms or garage sale "finds" from the basement to one of those antique appraisal shows are mainly looking to score a get-rich-quick payoff, hoping that their pieces are some sort of rare items of immense value to collectors. Or at the very least, that the items are worth enough to pull in some pocket cash by putting them up on eBay.
Not so, said Mark Moran, an antiques expert for more than 30 years.
