5 Fundamental lessons for a Project Manager in Translation Industry

If you are interested to be a successful project manager in translation industry, here are 5 fundamental lessons. Fortunately these are not related to linguistic skills !

1. Penetrate the Obvious : Even though your job posting may bring 50-60 eager freelancers, dont consider a true freelancer a commodity. There are million temptations to think otherwise, but be counter-obvious. A true freelance translator is one of the rarest entities in the globe. He/she is the hidden pillar on which your career is resting. How ? Let us examine positions as they say in stock-broking. You are an employee and your performance is measured by someone else.  A freelancer is a CEO and Business Owner. When you get some file handed over, you are most likley handling a black-box (because you dont know the language) and the freelancer can make your life heavely or hellish. There are nuances, grey areas, twillight zone in the domain of languages. You cannot fire a freelancer, by definition. But you can be fired, at will. Please understand this not obvious truth.
