Esta mañana he terminado la traducción de Mona Lisa Craving, la novela de género fantástico de la autora norteamericana Sunny, que aparecerá publicada en 2012 con el título El deseo de Mona Lisa en la editorial madrileña La factoría de Ideas. Esta novela es la tercera entrega de la saga de literatura fantástica protagonizada por Mona Lisa, y la cuarta que realizo para esta editorial.

The International Bonhoeffer Society and Fortress Press earlier this month (Nov. 13-15) marked the upcoming completion of the translations of the entire Dietrich Bonhoeffer corpus into English, with a celebration and conference at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Amuch-discussed fact in the publishing world is the following statistic: only about 3 percent of all books published annually in the U.S. are works translated from another language. The stats for literary fiction and poetry are even more dismal, at 0.7 percent. So if you are an excellent writer writing in Danish or Polish or Chinese, a writer with good reviews, even a faithful following of readers, your work may never see the light of day in English.

This month we were joined by Barbara Kelly (The University of Melbourne), who has extensive experience in the fields of language documentation and child language acquisition for a discussion into the why and how of documenting child language. Barb started the discussion by mentioning that many people who work in language documentation have the perception that child language is not relevant to them – but child data is relevant to anyone. Although the general fieldwork model of only working with adult native speakers is the current general practise it is only one way to document a language and documenting child language can also provide useful data.
