Ask an average Kenyan how many tribes there are in the country, and the answer will vary from between 40 and 45. If you count sub-groups, there are by some estimates about 70 different tribal groups. English is the national language of Kenya but Swahili is the most widely-spoken lingua franca, not just in this country but across East African nations like Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
