Hope and Disappointment: Covalent Inhibitors to Overcome Drug<br/>Resistance in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer | Daily Newspaper | Scoop.it

In the last five years, the detailed understanding of how to overcome T790M drug resistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has culminated in the development of a third-generation of covalent EGFR inhibitors with excellent clinical outcomes. However, the emergence of a newly discovered acquired drug resistance challenges the concept of small molecule targeted cancer therapy in NSCLC.

MOF Crystal Chemistry Paving the Way to Gas Storage Needs:<br/>Aluminum-Based soc-MOF for CH4, O2, and CO2 Storage | Daily Newspaper | Scoop.it

The molecular building block approach was employed effectively to construct a series of novel isoreticular, highly porous and stable, aluminumbased metal−organic frameworks with soc topology. From this platform, three compounds were experimentally isolated and fully characterized: namely, the parent Al-soc-MOF-1 and its naphthalene and anthracene analogues.

Giant Negative Area Compressibility Tunable in a Soft Porous<br/>Framework Material | Daily Newspaper | Scoop.it

A soft porous material [Zn(L)2(OH)2]n·Guest (where L is 4-(1H-naphtho[2,3-d]imidazol-1-yl)benzoate, and Guest is water or methanol) exhibits the strongest ever observed negative area compressibility (NAC), an extremely rare property, as at hydrostatic pressure most materials shrink in all directions and few expand in one direction. This is the first NAC reported in metal−organic frameworks (MOFs), and its magnitude, clearly visible and by far the highest of all known materials, can be reversibly tuned by exchanging guests adsorbed from hydrostatic fluids.

The stroke east Saxony pilot project for organized post-stroke care: a case–control study - Bodechtel - 2016 - Brain and Behavior - Wiley Online Library | Daily Newspaper | Scoop.it

Low adherence to secondary prevention guidelines in stroke survivors may increase the risk for recurrent stroke and adversely impact quality of life. We aimed to determine the feasibility of a self-developed standardized post-stroke pathway and its impact on secondary stroke prevention and longterm outcome in patients with acute stroke.

Re-imagining Schooling: Weaving the Picture of School as an Affinity Space for Twenty-First Century Through a Multiliteracies Lens | Daily Newspaper | Scoop.it

Currently, evolving ways of communication, interpretation and creation of meaning are challenging the ways people view themselves and the world, altering their learning demands and needs. Closely related to this process of change is the need to re-conceptualize schooling.

Natural Encoding for Evolutionary Supervised Learning

Natural Encoding for Evolutionary Supervised Learning | Daily Newspaper | Scoop.it

One of the most influential factors in the quality of the solutions found by an evolutionary algorithm are a correct coding of the search space and an appropriate evaluation function of the potential solutions. Evolutionary algorithms are often used to learn decision rules from datasets, which are encoded as individuals in the genetic population. In this paper, the coding of the search space for the obtaining of those decision rules is approached, i.e., the representation of the individuals of the genetic population and also the design of specific genetic operators.

THE OFFICIAL ANDREASCY's insight:

Machine Learning is the future.

How predictable is technological progress?

How predictable is technological progress? | Daily Newspaper | Scoop.it

Recently it has become clear that many technologies follow a generalized version of Moore's law, i.e. costs tend to drop exponentially, at different rates that depend on the technology. Here we formulate Moore's law as a correlated geometric random walk with drift, and apply it to historical data on 53 technologies.
