March 27 – This summer in the USA the rich will get richer after FIFA announced the prize money at stake for the inaugural Club World Cup. The winners will potentially earn up to $125million, making it the most financially rewarding month in club football. 
Earlier this month, the governing body announced a total prize pool of $1billion for the tournament that will run from June 14 until July 13.

March 5 – The Swiss public prosecutor in the Sepp Blatter/Michel Platini fraud trial has requested suspended sentences of 20 months for the former FIFA and UEFA chiefs for allegedly cheating FIFA out of CHF2 million.
Prosecutor Thomas Hildbrand opted not to call for prison sentences for 88-year-old Blatter (pictured) and 69-year-old Platini but rejected their insistence they were innocent of any wrongdoing
The pair were acquitted in July 2022 in a criminal action brought by Swiss judicial authorities that gripped world football politics.

February 14 – Last year, Belgian clubs registered combined post-tax losses of €160 million with Walloon giant Standard Liege showing the largest operational loss. 
The Pro League’s annual financial report has once again exposed the financial woes of Belgian football. While the €160 million loss is an improvement from a staggering €193 million deficit in 2023, the financial management at a lot of clubs remains problematic.
Standard Liège is the club with the highest losses.

February 10 – FIFA has reduced ticket prices for the Club World Cup amid low interest.
Late last year, the world governing body launched the ticket sales for the expanded 32-team tournament, the brainchild of FIFA boss Gianni Infantino, with eye-watering prices of up to $2,230 for the final, but the Daily Mail reports that FIFA has slashed prices because of low interest. 
The cheapest tickets for the final were being offered at $300 instead of the original $890.

Europe’s top 20 clubs generate record €11.2bn in revenue for 2023/24 season | The Business of Sports Management | Scoop.it

January 23 – The top 20 revenue generating clubs in world football reported a record €11.2 billion in the 2023/24 season.
More than €7.5 billion of that figure was generated by the top 10 clubs, with six of the top 10 playing in the English Premier League.
The figures come from the 28th edition of the Football Money League published by the Deloitte Sports Business Group.

February 28 – European football is raking in more cash than ever, but UEFA’s latest Club Licensing Benchmarking Report warns that clubs are walking a financial tightrope. While revenue hit a record €26.8 billion in 2023—up nearly €3 billion from the previous year—so did costs, squeezing operating margins across the board. 
Wages remain the biggest expense, with European clubs shelling out €18 billion on salaries in 2023.

February 26 – Ageing former FIFA president Sepp Blatter says he is looking forward to finally clearing his name at a second appeals trial into allegations he made corrupt payments to ex-UEFA boss Michel Platini.
Blatter, who ran FIFA from 1998 to 2015, insists he is innocent and victim of a witch hunt.
The seemingly never-ending saga involving the two men who were once the most powerful in world and European football could finally be reaching its denouement.
