Juventus have finally responded to reports of an attempted takeover of the club after cryptocurrency firm, Tether submitted a binding proposal to buy a controlling stake in the Serie A side. Tether proposed to acquire the current owner, Exor’s 65.4 per cent shareholding at a price of €2.66 per share and later intended to launch a public tender for the remaining shares at the same valuation.

November 25 – FIFA and 2034 World Cup organiser Saudi Arabia will distribute up to $1 billion ‘in concessional loans’ in support of sports infrastructure in developing nations.
FIFA has confirmed it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Saudi Fund for Development (SDF) to provide financial support to developing nations for the “construction or the enhancement of FIFA-certified stadiums and essential surrounding infrastructure.”
The new programme will focus on member associations in the global south.

US media powerhouse Paramount is set to become a major player in the UEFA Champions League in the UK and Germany from 2027.

November 14 – After two years of debate Major League Soccer (MLS) is changing its season dates to align with Europe’s big leagues, dropping its calendar year season in favour of a summer-to-spring schedule starting in 2027.
Before they make the switch – which the MLS says is “one of the most significant developments in the league’s history” – they will play a shortened transition season in 2027 from February to May, with a 14-game regular season.

November 10 – FIFA have escalated tensions with FIFPro after sidelining the world players’ union from player welfare talks in Morocco. FIFPro slammed those invited as “not a meaningful global representation of independent player unions”.
The world governing body pressed ahead with plans to develop new proposals for player welfare, staging the Professional Players Consultation Forum in Rabat, Morocco, on the sidelines of the U-17 Women’s World Cup.

November 7 – Former FIFA governance boss Miguel Maduro has accused Gianni Infantino of violating FIFA’s governance statutes by endorsing US President Donald Trump’s political programme.
After FIFA president Infantino said that Trump’s programme is “looking pretty good” at the America Business Forum in Miami, Florida, Maduro told The Athletic in an interview: “I think a president of FIFA can state that electoral results should be respected. But Infantino went beyond that.”

November 3 – Bundesliga champions and powerhouse of German football, Bayern Munich, have announced record revenue and membership growth for the 2024/25 season, with income hitting €978.3 million, a 2.8% increase of the previous season.
Operating profit (EBITDA) rose to €187.8 million (+11.3%). Pre-tax profit was €42.5 million, with net profit for the year at €27.1 million.
The club paid €257.7 million in taxes (VAT, wage tax, corporate, and business).

December 10 – Football boss Gianni Infantino is facing a complaint to FIFA’s own ethics committee from a UK NGO over his award of the inaugural FIFA peace prize to Donald Trump and his repeated endorsements of the US President.
Earlier this week, FairSquare, an NGO that advocates for good governance in sport, filed a complaint with FIFA’s ethics committee, one of the organisation’s judicial bodies, over alleged, repeated breaches by Infantino of Article 15 of the FIFA Code of Ethics and the duty of neutrality.

December 2 – European professional football’s stakeholders have issued a joint resolution on the key principles of the player transfer system and its reform in response to the European Court of Justice judgement in the ‘Diarra’ case in 2024.
The landmark Diarra ruling found that FIFA’s transfer rules regarding players terminating their contracts violated EU law. FIFA’s rules automatically impose sporting sanctions and compensation payments to the club the player leaves, and were ruled to unfairly restrict players’ freedom of movement and competition laws.

November 11 – The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has confirmed it has initiated disciplinary action against over 1000 players in relation to the betting scandal that has rocked professional football in Turkey. 
The TFF’s Professional Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) has referred 1024 professional footballers who were allegedly involved in betting activities – and 27 of these players are from the top-tier Turkish Super Lig.

October 30 – Heineken’s official beer sponsorship of the Champions League that began in 1994 looks set to end after Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev announced it was in exclusive negotiations for the rights to all UEFA’s men’s club competitions.
Talks are around securing a six-year deal starting in 2027 and running through to 2033, with AB InBev becoming the global official partner in the beer product category.
