July 15 – FIFA president Gianni Infantino has been using the governing body’s staff to lobby and pressure national associations in to sending letters of support for his own re-election to the presidency at the FIFA Congress on 18 March 2027 in Rabat, Morocco. A number of national association presidents have told Insideworldfootball that they have been put under pressure by FIFA staff members to send nomination letters.

July 13 – FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said the world governing body will examine the possibility of expanding the World Cup from its new 48-team format to 64, possibly as early as 2030, which will be co-hosted by Morocco, Portugal and Spain with opening games in South America. With Infantino up for re-election next year, the proposal would be a vote winner for any federation that is on the cusp of qualifying for the 48-team format.

July 3 – World Cup fans have filed a proposed class action in Manhattan federal court against StubHub, accusing the ticket resale giant of taking their money and never delivering the tickets. The complaint, lodged late Tuesday, says fans “did not get what they paid for” because StubHub never handed over what it promised. The grievances have been building in public. Supporters have flooded social media throughout the tournament, blaming StubHub for last-minute cancellations and for backing away from assurances they’d get replacements.

The Executive Board proposed on Wednesday assessing disciplines rather than sports and adding a strategic phase to future host selection, under reforms that must still be approved by the organisation's session in Lausanne. The IOC preparing wide-ranging reforms to the composition of the Olympic Games programme and the process for selecting future hosts. The initiative, presented by President Kirsty Coventry following the Executive Board meeting, forms part of her 'Fit for the Future' programme and will be put to a vote at the 146th IOC Session on 24-25th June.

June 11 – Earlier this week FIFA announced that it had settled the Lassana Diarra transfer case over claims for compensation. Yesterday FIFA and football’s key stakeholders approved a new regulatory framework that they say will bring stability and certainty to the global transfer system In 2024, Diarra won a landmark case at the Court of Justice for the European for the European Union (CJEU) against FIFA and the Belgian FA in which he claimed restrictive labour practices had caused him €6 million in loss of earnings.

July 10 – European lawmakers for the third time in two weeks have sent a letter raising FIFA governance issues, and for a second time demanding that FIFA investigate its president, Gianni Infantino. On Wednesday, 72 members of the European Parliament demanded an investigation into Infantino over the suspension of the red card handed to US striker Folarin Balogun. The red card was suspended after US president Donald Trump had called Infantino directly.

June 8 – FIFA will distribute $355 million to compensate clubs that have released players to play at the World Cup. For the first time $100 million has been reserved for clubs that released players for FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers.
