This list is a work-in progress and we will be adding more to it in the next coming days.

"We can make all sorts of assumptions about the way technology is changing learning, but what does the science actually say? According to Alfred Spector, Google’s vice president of research, it says a lot. For example, virtual tutors have helped average students reach the top 2% of their course; video games provide immersive environments that take the bordedom out of studying; and social networks are being used to increase interaction between students."

Democratic FCC Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel called for a variety of strategies to support out-of-school access to high speed broadband during a speech at ISTE 2015.
Education Technology Advocates Stress Need For Broadband Access Out Of School. Benjamin Herold writes at the Education Week (6/29, Herold) “Digital Education” blog that education advocates attending the annual conference of the International Society for Technology and Education in Philadelphia signaled that they are planning on “turning their attention to a trio of policy issues they say could threaten the spread of personalized digital learning.” The foremost of those issues is the expansion of access to broadband outside of school. One speaker at the event, Democratic Federal Communications Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, lamented that most teachers assign homework requiring online access, “even though one third of households do not subscribe to broadband.”

Another way MindMup is now allowing you to work with larger groups easier is a quick notification mechanism when someone changes a node. You'll get a small speech bubble pop up for several seconds and disappear automatically, so it's easy to keep an eye on the entire team or classroom. At the moment, this only works for node text changes, but in the future we'll add other notification types.

"I’ve always been a fan of sharing openly. I sometimes tell people that my life is an open book that no one wants to read. The nature of my job and my position is one that interacts regularly with social media as both a way of learning and a means of sharing. Recently, I’ve been captivated by the phenomena of Meerkat and Periscope. As I’ve seen throughout my many years in Ed Tech, whenever a new tool hits the market there are usually a slew of early adopters running out to grab it, figure out what it does, then figure out how we can use it for education. I’m usually one of those first-adopters, but I’ve purposefully taken a more measured approach to the world of mobile live video streaming and becoming a “Digital Broadcaster”."

The Internet of Things basically refers to any so-called “smart” object that uses an internet connection to enhance functionality. Today there are watches, forks, thermostats, and any number of other related devices that students or school campuses may be bringing to a network near you. Planning for this next evolution of networking needs to simultaneously be defensive (ensuring that IT infrastructure is ready) and offensive (encouraging and leading groups outside of the IT department such as teachers and students to take full advantage of the promise of the IoT.) According to Gartner [2], we’ve entered the “Wild West” era in IoT adoption. With that in mind, here is a quick checklist for preparing your school or district.

Asking kids to power down is really asking them to disconnect from their peers. I suspect I would not have responded favorably to such a request at that age.
