Stress management
to improve animal
performance

Stress management
to improve animal
performance | Stress Management | Scoop.it
Stress is a multi-factorial and growing concern in animal
production, which influences both short- and long-term
performances. However, the real impact of stress on animal
production is certainly overlooked.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#howstressaffectsanimals #animalsandstress #stressinlivestock Animals can feel the effects of stress just like humans can.    From family pets like cats and dogs to live stock all can suffer from being stressed out.   Stress in live stock can lead to losses!

How stress affects animals is just like how it affects humans.   It causes them to produce less milk, in the case with cows and goats.   It can weaken their immune systems causing illness and disease.   Stress can also cause chickens to lay smaller or less eggs.    Animals and stress is a bad combination for farmers.

Farmers can help reduce stress in livestock by focusing on the well being of their animals.   Start by trying to keep a more natural diet and using less hormones.   This can help reduce stress.

» 7 Tips for Helping Your Child Manage Stress - Psych Central | Stress Management | Scoop.it
Like adults, kids also struggle with stress. Too many commitments, conflict in their families and problems with peers are all stressors that overwhelm
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#childstress #helpingchildrenwithstress #howstressaffectschildren Stress affects all of us even children.   Child stress is just how it sounds.   It is the stress that a child feels throughout their day.   It can come from school, being bullied, being overscheduled or worse from parents fighting.

How stress affects children is no different from how stress affects adults.  They feel anxiety, depression, stomach problems, etc.   Since they are younger and more immature how they react to this stress can be very different from adults.

Helping children with stress is easy.   They range from simple stress reduction steps like make sure they get enough sleep and give them time to be a kid (play time) to more complicated ones like not overscheduling them.   Overscheduling a child is when you have them doing too much like karate, baseball and other activities.   You can also try teaching your children to listen to their bodies and to learn that everyone makes mistakes.

Is the stress of work killing you?

Canadian physician and stress management specialist David Posen asks a question on the minds of many in his new book 'Is Work Killing You?
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#canstresskillyou #physicaleffectsofstress #jobstress #stressintheworkplace Wondering " Can stress kill you?" Author and stress management specialist David Posen seems to think so.   In his new book "Is Work Killing You? A Doctor's Prescription for Treating Workplace Stress" he details how job stress can be causing you unneeded stress and how to resolve it.

The physical effects of stress because of your stress in the workplace can cause several serious physical aliments.   From high blood pressure to depression can all be directly related to too much stress.   Learning to deal with stress effectively could drastically improve your health and well being.

The author later states what he feels are the biggest factors of work stress. He feels that the volume of the workload, the faster pace of the job and sometimes abuse can all lead to large increases in stress.   Added to the fact that, as a workforce, we are taking less and less time to relax, it is no wonder job related stress is killing us.

5 Foods That Cause Stress | Reboot With Joe

5 Foods That Cause Stress | Reboot With Joe | Stress Management | Scoop.it
Feeling stressed? We’re all used to pinning it on our jobs, schedules or relationships. But would you have guessed that foods could be the culprits?
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#causesofstress #reducestresswithahealthydiet #holisticstressprevention  Stress is a reaction we all experience on a daily basis.   There are a number of causes of stress that include our diet.    The foods we eat could be adding to our stress levels.     Combating stress could be as easy as eating a piece of fruit instead of a piece of pizza.

Reduce stress with a healthy diet.   Eat less refined sugars and processed foods can not only make you healthier but less stressed as well.   Holistic stress prevention advice also suggests to stay away from "factory farmed" eggs and dairy.   Most of the time these food sources are heavily processed with hormones and antibiotics which is not good for stress nor your health.   In the end stick to an organic, GMO free diet and your stress will melt away as quickly as your waist line.

Turn stress into positive energy - The Standard
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#destress #goodstress #benefitsfromstress #managingyourstress #aboutstress Are we looking at stress the right way?   We are so worried about stress and how to manage stress that maybe we should try seeing it as a positive?     Are their positive benefits from stress?

Many of us see stress as bad.    However the fact is we can turn it into good stress by changing our attitude towards it.   A new study shows that how you feel about stress can make a huge difference.   In the study a group was told to view their stress response as a positive thing.   Because of this advice their blood vessels were relaxed when put in a stressful situation.   Meaning the more positive stress is viewed, the less physical damage is can cause.

I'm not saying quit managing your stress.   Keep up with your destress techniques.    Just try and view the stress you cannot control in a positive light.

Stress: the new workplace epidemic

Stress: the new workplace epidemic | Stress Management | Scoop.it
Five years of rolling redundancy and change programs have taken their toll on many employees and increasing numbers are struggling with anxiety and depression.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#workplacestress #overcomingstress #reducingemployeestress #waystorelaxatwork  Stress at work is becoming a big issue in today's business world.   With the downsizing of the work force, more employees are seeing increased workloads, less vacation time and even less time to relax.   Overcoming stress is becoming a full time job.

Workplace stress does not have to be a production killer.   It can be easily dealt with and production can return to normal.   Reducing employee stress should not be seen as a task or a job but as someone a good manager/owner wants to do for their employees.   Encourage them to take their vacation time.   Give their a size bonus for their hard work.   Lastly research ways to relax at work.

Finally poor communication is a major reason for job related stress.   Not have good lines of communication with your employees can turn into a big problem.    Being able to talk about problems openly helps clear up a lot of misconceptions and can help reduce office stress.

Retirement doesn’t ease stress

Retirement doesn’t ease stress | Stress Management | Scoop.it
When I began teaching stress management more than 30 years ago, I wondered if interest would eventually wane as it does for fads.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#retirementstress #teachingstressmanagement #howtomanagestress #dealingwithstress As retirement approaches everyone seems to think that stress will retire with the job.   The truth is stress does not retire.  It just comes from different sources.

Retirement stress can come from a number of areas.  From a huge change in lifestyle to a reduction in income can all trigger stress.   This is why retired adults should learn how to manage stress.

Dealing with stress is easy when you are use to it.   However these new sources of stress can be especially troubling.   Teaching stress management techniques can be extremely helpful.    Because your retirement is about sitting back and enjoying yourself, not stressing over it.

Desolie Crilley's curator insight, March 5, 2014 5:45 AM

This article blew me away when I read that American Medical Association quoted 30 years ago 50% of illness was related to stress and now it is up to 90%. While this is obviously an American statistic, we have a similiar lifestyle and standard of living so I am assuming Australia would be something similiar.  Having spent over 30 years of my life nursing, I believe I have a pretty good insight into Australia's health.  When I think of the amount of money and resources that are dedicated to mental health compared to other areas, I realise that it is severely underfunded.  One reason may be the stigma attached to mental health and  reluctance of people to admit that they may have a problem and need help to cope. It was also enlightening when you realise the value of her statement that stress is not in the situation but in the perception.  We dont always have the opportunity to control other people and situations but we can recognise within ourselves our perceptions and because we own them then we have the potential to change them.

If you can’t avoid a stressful situation, try to alter it. Figure out what you can do to change things so the problem doesn’t present itself in the future.
American Institute Health Care Professionals's insight:

#stressmanagementtips #managingyourstress #learningtomanagestress #waystodealwithstress Stress management tips are good but at one point you need to be able to take charge.    By taking charge of your life you can manage stress without really trying.

Learning to manage stress is easy.   Just keep a balanced life.    There are plenty of ways to deal with stress however the best is taking preventative measures and stopping stress before it has a chance to wear you down.   Learning to manage stress this way allows you to control your life by taking charge of your thoughts, emotions, schedule, etc.    By designing plans and schedules you will be keeping a balance of work and play.

Adjustments you can start making today would be keeping a stress journal.   By writing down what causes you stress and how you react to it, you can write a plan of action on how to effectively deal with your stress.    Also by doing this you can see what your stress triggers are and how you can completely avoid them altogether.
