The loss of tropical rain forests is likely to reduce the energy output of hydroelectric projects for countries whose economies depend on them.
The Morpho Institute's insight:

You know that big, controversial hydroelectric project in Brazil?  The Belo Monte Dam?   Scientists project that deforestation throughout the region will result in less rainfall and thereby lead to a 40% DECREASE in the projected energy output...making all the degradation, displacement, and destruction even more incomprehensible.
