Pour faire connaître leurs travaux, les chercheurs s'appuient traditionnellement sur des revues scientifiques. Mais ils sont de plus en plus nombreux à dénoncer les pratiques de certains éditeurs majeurs, qui tirent profit de résultats financés sur fonds publics. Un combat pour le « libre accès » aux connaissances est engagé, des modèles alternatifs émergent.
