The “Black Box” of Local #NewtownPA Government

The “Black Box” of Local #NewtownPA Government | Newtown News of Interest | Scoop.it

5 Takeaways from the Newtown Township Public eMailbox

At the recent 12 August 2026 Newtown Board of Supervisors (BOS) public meeting, a resident's inquiry about meeting procedures was met with a suggestion from the chairman to "send an email" and start a private discourse.

Neighbors for Open Government & Accountability (NOGA) characterizes this as a “Black Box” tactic to avoid public accountability and on-the-record answers.

johnmacknewtown's insight:

I had to use a Right-To_Know (RTK) request to see the emails that residents sent to comments@newtownpa.gov as suggested in the the agenda of each BOS meeting. This is a summary of what I learned. Of course, not every resident is aware of the Right-To-Know law or has the patience/time to go through the process. That's why I call private email to township officials as a "Black Box".
