Falls Township "Caught Off Guard" on Data Center Done Deal!"

Falls Township "Caught Off Guard" on Data Center Done Deal!" | Newtown News of Interest | Scoop.it

[Reported 8/4/26 in the Bucks County Courier Times.]

Officials in Falls Township are proactively revising their zoning ordinances to specifically address the unique demands of data center developments. This legal maneuver follows significant public backlash regarding a previously approved Amazon Web Services project, which critics fear will strain local water resources and increase noise pollution. By declaring their current codes "substantially invalid," the board aims to establish clearer regulations and utility requirements for future facilities.

johnmacknewtown's insight:

This perfectly reflects the situation in Falls Township:

  • The "Done Deal": While the township is currently undertaking a six-month zoning rewrite to regulate future data centers, the massive Amazon Web Services data center campus is already a "done deal," having been approved back in March 2025.
  • Caught Off-Guard: Township officials acknowledged they were caught off-guard by the sudden wave of resident opposition and environmental concerns, as nobody had attended the original land development meetings.

By the time the new protective zoning regulations are enacted, the initial project that sparked the outcry will already be well underway
