Using MySQL locally for testing SQL injection techniques and syntaxes

Using MySQL locally for testing SQL injection techniques and syntaxes | FrenchTech SAAS | Scoop.it

The largest reason for writing this is to show active penetration testers methods of testing things locally before they test them remotely, or if they want to write their own scripts. I'm not going into all of this in detail, more in-depth research is listed at the end of this document.

databene benerator

databene benerator | FrenchTech SAAS | Scoop.it
databene
Mickael Ruau's insight:

benerator supports you in performing realistic load and performance tests. It is a framework

for generating realistic and valid high-volume test data for your system under test (avoiding the Datalite anti-pattern). benerator actually reduces the amount of time for creating a useful data setup of a medium sized enterprise application or XML Schema from 2-4 weeks to 1-2 days!

Since data representation and constraints are platform independent, benerator can provide you with a rich set of plugin interfaces for custom extensions and mappings, allowing virtually any platform to be targeted with data generation.

Out of the box benerator supports database systems, XML, XML Schema, CSV, Flat Files and Excel(TM) sheets. Domain packages provide reusable generators for creating domain-specific data as names and addresses internationalizable in language and region (via nestable datasets).

benerator is released under a dual license - GPL and commercial. For quick details check the corresponding FAQ entry.

MongoDB solves problems MySQL didn't solve at the time

Hacker News comments on the article "MongoDB Days" here: http://gaiustech.wordpress.com/2013/04/13/mongodb-days/

Last week I attended MongoDB Day London. Now MongoDB itself is a technology that I’m fairly interested in, I can see where it would have its uses. But the problem is the people! They all talk like this:

* Some problem that just doesn’t really exist (or hasn’t existed for a very long time) with relational databases

* MongoDB

* Profit!

So anyway, since it’s free‡, there’s no reason not to evaluate MongoDB, and see if it suits your use cases. But just remember that these kids think they’re solving problems that IBM (et al) solved quite literally before they were born in some cases, and the features are probably already there in your existing database/technology stack (I have used Oracle for my rebuttals just because I am most familiar with it, but I expect the same is true for SQL Server and DB/2 as well). Talk to your friendly local DBA…

ISO 3166-1 decoding table - ISO 3166 Maintenance agency - ISO

This decoding table provides the user of ISO 3166-1 with an easy access to the definition of all 676 code elements available in the alpha-2 code of ISO's country code standard.

Mickael Ruau's insight:

The content of this document is taken from two sources: The official code list of ISO 3166-1 and the list of reserved ISO 3166-1 code elements which contains information on code allocations which are not officially part of ISO 3166-1 (see "Reserved code elements"). The reserved code elements have different statuses with regard to restrictions on use within ISO's country code system. Some may be used - others must not be used.

These statuses - and their approximate meanings for the user of ISO 3166-1 - are described and colour-coded in Table 1. Tables 2 gives a colour coded, clickable matrix of all ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code elements which is linked to Table 3 which gives the definition of the code element.

For more detailed information please refer to the section on "Reserved code elements" on our Website.

DB Sanity (English)

Quite often production data contains many inconsistencies and faults which can even contradict your current system requirements. This can be caused by historic bugs, data migration problems and aborted processes.

If you are lucky the system will ignore these bad sets of data (e.g. and consider them incomplete) but if you are unlucky they will act as ticking timebombs ready to explode when an unfortunate use case trips on one of these sets (e.g. a postal system that causes the wrong postage costs). A lot of time can be spent on finding work arounds or manually cleaning the data in question.

Mickael Ruau's insight:

DB Sanity is a tool to define and verify individual data requirements as and when they are needed. It can also be used to systematically clean the production system when appropriate.

Have a look at these PDF presentation slides that introduce you to data issues and the way DB Sanity is resolving them.
