Heavy and prolonged rainfall in China’s key wheat-growing regions during the harvest season has reduced the quality of part of the crop, potentially leading to higher wheat imports in the coming months. The provinces of Henan and Hubei were among the hardest hit, with significant precipitation occurring during the peak harvesting period in late May.

"CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA — Challenged by higher input costs and regionally dry weather, area planted to winter crops in Australia is forecast to decline to 23.6 million hectares for 2026-27, down 7% year on year with production of the major crops — wheat, barley and canola — following suit, according to a quarterly report from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES). National winter crop production is projected to decrease 21% to 54.5 million tonnes in 2026–27, reflecting an expected fall in the total area planted and lower yields, ABARES said in its June Australian Crops Report."

"Global grain markets are entering the 2026/27 season with broadly comfortable supply, but with far more complicated trade conditions. Major exporters are expected to see production fall from last season’s high levels, while several importing regions may harvest stronger crops. North Africa could see a record aggregate wheat crop if current expectations are realised, with Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia all producing more. Türkiye and Syria are also expected to harvest good crops, potentially reducing import needs in Near East Asia."
