As the main export systems of both Russia and Ukraine come under pressure, traders are redirecting grain through alternative ports, inland corridors and neighbouring countries. Ukraine is relying more heavily on the Danube, rail, road transport and Romania’s Constanța port, while Russia is shifting cargo towards deep-sea Black Sea terminals and using smaller outlets through the Baltic, Caspian and Far East. These alternatives can reduce some immediate losses, but they cannot fully replace the scale, speed and cost efficiency of the Black Sea and Sea of Azov systems.
