What every school needs from a digital strategy

What every school needs from a digital strategy | Learning & Technology News | Scoop.it

The problem is compounded by the fact that many of the adults involved in education simply lack the experience and skills to be appropriate role models in the use of social media. This is why a greater, more concerted and more constructive involvement of schools in the digital lives of their students is necessary if we want our students to understand how to be good all-round citizens. Simply ignoring this other dimension of pupil behaviour seems to me to be grossly irresponsible.

The Importance Of Task-Based Language Learning

The Importance Of Task-Based Language Learning | Learning & Technology News | Scoop.it

Structuring a language lesson around a task or goal has a myriad of benefits. And although I learned of this method on my own through trial and error, task-based learning has been talked about in the learning community since the 1980s. There are differing opinions about its effectiveness, but for me, the benefits are undeniable. Studies have also shown that overall task-based learning offers more advantages than disadvantages to students.

Digital transformation comes with the risk of increasing inequality, repression, and instability. Malign actors capture digital infrastructure to advance divisive messaging, crime, and illicit finance. While Zoom and other video conferencing tools have worked well for pair and small group work, language teachers have struggled to find a tool that could simulate “mingle activities” – activities in which students mingle around the classroom and talk to a number of classmates to gather information or practice a target structure with a number of interlocutors.

A 2016 survey of such programs found that only about 4 percent of respondents offered field experiences such as student teaching in K-12 online settings. The National Council on Teacher Quality, a think tank that evaluates teacher preparation programs, doesn’t collect data related to remote learning or online education, says its director of strategic communications. Even teacher prep programs that are offered via online courses don’t necessarily instruct teacher candidates how to educate students remotely
