After years of lobbying from the Italian government, a UN agency has now declared the country's cooking culture, as a whole, is a part of humanity's intangible cultural heritage. Gianfranco Junior Spagnolo, chef de cuisine at Vancouver restaurant Cantina di Luigi, says he's proud of the designation. It’s well established that children have an easier time learning second languages. In recent years, scientists have studied whether being bilingual may help ward off the memory lapses and reduced mental sharpness that come with an aging brain.
