Google Direct Connect Hooks Search and Google+ Pages Together

Google Direct Connect Hooks Search and Google+ Pages Together | information analyst | Scoop.it

Direct Connect gives Google+ Brand pages a leg up on Facebook Pages, Twitter profiles and even brand websites. The link appears just under the search box, so it essentially acts like a search result above the search engine page. It’s also the only operator that takes users directly out of Google Search and to another website.

Social Media Analytics: Three lessons for success

Social Media Analytics: Three lessons for success | information analyst | Scoop.it

Last week I had the opportunity to present my views on social media analytics at Business Insider’s Social Media Analytics conference (you can view the slides from my presentation here). The lessons I presented were based on my own experience, both based on my work at SAP but also on discussions with my peers in the industry. They were centered around the following three key takeaways:

1. Differentiate, but be consistent

Although this sounds like an oxymoron, defining a consistent social media analytics framework can help create a common vocabulary and allow you to learn by being able to consistently compare across your various campaigns. There are three key dimensions as shown on the chart above...

Compare & Find Best Free Solutions

Compare & Find Best Free Solutions | information analyst | Scoop.it
CatchFree makes it easy to compare and find the best free online solution for your specific need.

Resources like CatchFree are indispensable at a time in which the creation and release of applications has become more and more democratized, and even people whose technical understanding is not really advanced can create an app and get it out without really over-exerting himself. While such a thing might not be bad from a competitive point of view, it is bad to consumers inasmuch they end up downloading/buying apps that are up to no good. Well, that is what CatchFree is here to prevent from happening. It is a community where people can recommend the best apps that they have tried, and tell the world at large why they are a cut above the rest.

These applications that are more widely-loved are all highlighted on the homepage, and they are actually arranged by popularity - the ones that have received the best ratings all sit on top.

This community site can be joined by any person who has a story to tell - registration is inexpensive, and it is over in two or three minutes.

Finding Credible Information Sources in Social Networks Based on Content & Social Structure

http://www.parc.com/content/attachments/finding-credible-information-preprint.pdf

(PDF DOWNLOAD) "A task of primary importance for social network
users is to decide whose updates to subscribe to in order to
maximize the relevance, credibility, and quality of the information
received. To address this problem, we conducted an experiment
designed to measure the extent to which different factors in online
social networks affect both explicit and implicit judgments of
credibility. The results of the study indicate that both the topical
content of information sources and social network structure
affect source credibility. Based on these results, we designed a
novel method of automatically identifying and ranking social
network users according to their relevance and expertise for
a given topic. We performed empirical studies to compare a
variety of alternative ranking algorithms and a proprietary
service provided by a commercial website specifically designed
for the same purpose. Our findings show a great potential for
automatically identifying and ranking credible users for any
given topic."

MMOWGLI: An Experiment in Generating Collective Intelligence

MMOWGLI: An Experiment in Generating Collective Intelligence | information analyst | Scoop.it

"mmowgli is both the coolest project I have ever worked on and the hardest to describe in words, but here it goes: mmowgli is an experiment in generating collective intelligence and a pilot project being developed by the Office of Naval Research.

Beyond that, mmowgli is ultimately the answer to a few questions, ones that haunted me every day during my tour as a Science Advisor at the Pentagon: why did I experience such a disconnect between technologists and “innovators,” on one hand, and warfighters and end users on the other? Why didn’t “game changing innovations” generate more enthusiasm from those who were “in the game?” And what was I doing to make it better?

As my Pentagon tour drew to a close, these questions nagged at me and morphed into a thousand others: What if we took a heavy, formal approach, and made it lighter and more of a continuous conversation instead of a blueprint? What if you didn’t need a fully formed idea to make a contribution? What if ideas, even half-formed ones, could meet up in space and recombine with other ideas to form new ones? What if this conversation engaged more stakeholders and tolerated more excursions? Finally, what if this conversation became so rich and compelling that, instead of truncating the debate, it actually enlarged the universe of possibilities?"

Curate and publish beautiful, authoritative, topical pages on the subjects you care most about.

These days, finding the best content on the web is as important as creating it. At Thoora, we’ve built a service with that in mind. We’ve got a new way for you to discover, monitor, and share the best of the web: by creating living bodies of knowledge on the topics you choose.
We believe that the discovery of great content cannot be accomplished by algorithms alone, but nor can any human make sense of the entire web. Thoora’s secret sauce lies in our unique combination of human and machine. While our patented semantic aggregation engine delivers quality content, we then put you in the driver’s seat, giving you the tools to refine, re-order and prioritize. The result? Human-perfected, living bodies of knowledge that are always fresh and relevant.
Based in Toronto, Canada, Thoora was founded by University of Toronto PhD Chul Lee, a data mining and search expert, along with Kyu Lee and Byron Ma. Over the past three years, the team at Thoora has built and refined a patented engine to help discover, rate and deliver the highest quality, most trusted, and relevant content on any given topic. Thoora explores the entire blogosphere, Twittosphere, other social media apps, and thousands of traditional media sources; and then uses over 100 signals to filter, rank, and deliver that content to you for your refinement. Thoora then uses the actions behind your refinement to further optimize the results.
With Thoora, let us distill the vast land of content out there for you; boil it down to only what you need. Then you can make the best of the rest of it. Happily.
