Do Teachers Need to Relearn How to Learn?

Do Teachers Need to Relearn How to Learn? | information analyst | Scoop.it

I suspect that the main reason many teachers don’t transfer their knowledge and actively seek answers to their questions about tech is that they simply aren’t very interested in learning it. The key to David Warlick’s statement is that people can leverage the internet to learn anything they want to learn. But let’s put that aside for now and assume for the sake of argument that teachers need to learn how to use tech whether they want to or not. Why do they often profess helplessness and state that they can’t learn it without PD?

How Much Does File Sharing Resemble Stealing--And Does it Matter?

How Much Does File Sharing Resemble Stealing--And Does it Matter? | information analyst | Scoop.it

Property rights serve a lot of functions in our society, and property rights can attach to things that are quite nebulous indeed, like accounting entries in computers that exist in a physical space not visible to the naked eye. They are highly contingent in ways we rarely think about. I'm not sure how we settled on 'it's non-rivalrous' as the reason that file sharing is a) not stealing and b) okay.

Briefings: Social Networks - MIT Technology Review

Briefings: Social Networks - MIT Technology Review | information analyst | Scoop.it

A primer on a key emerging technogloy that promises to be transformational in its impact. A collection of articles.

Social networks are redefining the way people find and share information, they've provided a platform for a new wave of applications, and their impact has even spilled over into this year's revolutions in the Middle East. The operators of these networks make money primarily through ads, wooing advertisers with the prospect of campaigns better targeted than anything competitors like search engines or television can provide. But can online communities manage their privacy problem?

Cerf on science: The father of the Internet talks string theory, the physics of Angry Birds & more | information analyst | Scoop.it

When Vint Cerf talks about Google's upcoming global Science Fair, you can hear the infectious enthusiasm in his voice.

Again, Cerf sees some aspects of that fictional world becoming reality, especially with regard to the Internet of Things. “The Android OS is turning out to be of interest… in other devices, things that consume electricity, appliances around the house,” he said.

And of course, there’s Google’s revolutionary self-driving cars.

“We’re very proud of those cars,” said Cerf. “This is turning out to be an incredible period of time when we’re able to harness the power of computing in small devices and also harnessing huge computing power in the form of clouds.”
