I've created this curation collection to save articles that help me understand what modern health in society is.  The articles here are general in nature and placed here to promote discussion. We advise that you talk with your health professional before changing any of your medication or treatment options.  Any of the online courses listed here may (or may not) be open for access or enrolment. Most are free to browse, some may charge a small fee if you wish to receive a certificate or record of learning.   Every effort is made to ensure that these links are up to date and be aware that some of these articles may be behind a 'paywall'. Indeed, researchers have come to understand that the health benefits attributed to a daily glass of wine are largely a mirage. People who drink in moderation tend to have more advantages in life than people who abstain (such as having higher socioeconomic status, more years of education and generally better health), and experts think that explains their lower risk for dementia, not the alcohol itself.

The evidence that heavy drinking (often defined as more than two drinks a day) can damage the brain and increase the risk of dementia has also continued to accumulate. But experts are still learning exactly how it happens, and at what amount harms start to occur.
