Are you stopping yourself...

Are you stopping yourself... | Job Advice - on Getting Hired | Scoop.it
Trish Sadar's insight:

I just recently returned from a trip, and I met with a very nice taxi driver.  (long trip to the airport...) He was sharing with me how many mistakes he had made, the dreams he had, and was acting as though he had already reached the end of his life.

When I said to him, so what are you going to do about it?  He responded to all of my suggestions with (yes, but... or its too late for that...I don't have the time...I tried it...)

What we should all realize is that we often are the obstacles that stand in the way of reaching our career aspirations.  What we think, the yes-but responses, the excuses we give to ourselves.

Today, I urge everyone reading this to write down all of the excuses. Stop believing them and re-playing them.  Read them out load, and decide today that you won't let yourself get in the way of reaching your dreams.

You have the pen in your hand right now, and are writing the next chapter in your life for year 2014.  What will the new year bring you?  What obstacles will you overcome?  How proud will you be of what you have learned, and what you have accomplished?

Now how good did it feel to write those accomplishments down?

Okay, start today....If not now...when?

Make it a great day!

The 50 Most Amazing University Libraries in the World | Job Advice - on Getting Hired | Scoop.it
If there’s anything the editors of BestMastersPrograms.org love more than classes and books, it’s universities and libraries. It’s no surprise, then, that university libraries rank right up there among our favorite places.

The 7 Character Traits Top Tier Organizations Value Most - Human Capital Institute

The 7 Character Traits Top Tier Organizations Value Most - Human Capital Institute | Job Advice - on Getting Hired | Scoop.it

Top-tier organizations are unusually picky about character traits and surprisingly flexible about paper credentials. Elite military units don’t always pick the best marksmen; they know that better shooting skills can be taught over time. They do look for soldiers with extraordinary tenacity. In pop music, an ability to connect with fans counts for more than pitch-perfect harmonics. And at some of Silicon Valley’s best-known startups, a stubborn, brilliant coder who dropped out of college may be a more prized hire than a counterpart with a great transcript – but little imagination.
