Whilst the advertised job market contains only 20-25% of all available of roles, the majority of job seekers are unaware of the less saturated 'hidden' job
Nice advice!
The most important thing to do is to have a multi-fauceted approach. Networking, Social Media, Niche Boards, Researching and selecting preferred organizations, Joining Association and Industry Group Boards, getting help from your career counselors or Alumni or past colleagues, etc.
Most people focus on only applying to job openings that are posted. If you want results you have to do what others aren't doing and persist!

I completely agree that the job search needs to be a full time job! Also, you have to be realistic with the postiions you are applying for.
Some jobs in healthcare, IT, and education have education requirements. It may take some planning and time...remember, you might not be able to change the result overnight; however, you absolutely can change your direction.
