Rush Limbaugh is attempting to further undermine CNN's Candy Crowley's fact check debunking Mitt Romney's false claim that President Obama waited two weeks before calling the attack in Benghazi, Libya, an act of terror. Limbaugh claimed that Crowley's correction was proof of a "coordinated" effort between the Obama campaign and moderator Crowley before the debate.
In fact, during CNN's post-debate coverage, Crowley addressed the fact check and explained that she had prepared for the debate by going over what had been reported about Libya and remembered Obama's comments about the attack.
President Obama and the Democratic Party's grand total is just north of $900 million dollars for the current cycle, while Mitt Romney and the Republicans topped $800 million.
If this doesn't bother you, if you're not worried that Citizens United was the worst decision in Supreme Court history and must be overturned by Constitutional Amendment then, with all due respect, you need to be because of what that decision is doing to our democracy. It's turning it into a plutocracy. And make no mistake, the plutocrats care not a wit about you and me. Trickle down economics is a myth. Always has been and always will be.
TLC’s reality TV juggernauts aren’t just baking cakes, wearing tiaras, or counting their 19 kids. They’re also speaking out on the presidential race, gay rights, and abortion. Here’s where the stars of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Cake Boss, and others stand.
Unfriending, blocking and ignoring: Political spats on Facebook affect real-life relationships with family, friends, colleagues and neighbors as the 2012 Election Day battle between Obama and Romney draws near...
A right-wing political action committee named “Government Is Not God” recently ran a smear-campaign against President Obama in 19 newspapers, using a dozen truly bizarre lies to rally conservative voters to the polls.
In the ad, the wingnut GING-PAC lays out its vision of “the true agenda of Barack Hussein Obama.” Upon scrutiny from Politifact, all of the claims rate as false, with a whopping 6 “pants on fire” rebuttals.
[When asked for evidence of these false charges against the President, the ad's sponsor said he did not need evidence, since he is just making "predictions" about O's pollicies. Too bad that there are low-information, less educated Americans who will believe this garbage.]
How is this even legal? Can an elected representative actually say that he's going to base his policy decisions on the Bible? If so, wouldn't it also be legal for someone to see he was going to base policy decisions on the Koran? Or on the Bhagavad Gita? There has to be some protections from people like this...
I know: You're thinking that's a pretty silly question.
We know who'll be watching the debate, don't we, since it's always pretty much the same people: political junkies, hard-core extremists with their minds already made up, the family members of pundits, and a small set of undecideds who might actually decided to un-undecide based on tonight's performance. Adding them all together makes up a goodly number (I've always loved the word "goodly"), but on a percentage basis, the expected viewership is still only somewhere around the same amount that tuned into the series finale of Family Ties.
But that's not really the question I was asking. Better phrased, perhaps, would be, "Who will I be while watching the debate? That's a tougher question to answer since there are so many parts of me that care.
Will I be watching as a Republican? Probably, which means I'll be rooting, a little bit, for Mitt Romney to turn in a stellar performance (which means, by the way, much more than simply not encountering his own foot while speaking). I will want to hear a sense of statesmanship that demands respect, something my party has rarely experienced in recent days.
Will I be watching as a swing-stater? Yes, since I live in New Hampshire, and this is one of those rare elections where our four measly electoral college votes might mean something (especially since I've seen at least one odd little map that shows this could be a tie!)
Will I be watching as a member of the Coffee Party? Undoubtedly, which means I'll be on the lookout for factless truth and innuendo sans logic, while praying for any sense of real substance, something that can actually help people make up their minds without first making them afraid of the other guy.
Will I be watching as the author of Chasing Glenn Beck? Certainly, which means I'll be listening to the pundits, rolling my eyes every time Sean Hannity or Al Sharpton speaks, and wondering why they get the big bucks while I continue to fight the good fight in relative obscurity.
And will I be watching as a husband and father and citizen? Of course, since I'm someone who truly wants what's best for the country and hopes beyond hope that, whomever wins, the American people can rally behind him and find a way to jumpstart meaningful conversations that can--finally--lead to addressing our very real and very urgent problems.
My guess is that I'll likely be all of these people tonight, and that you will have your various incarnations, too. Be all of the people you are; listen from every angle That's important. But remember that it's you that gets to make the decision here. The people on that stage--and in the studios covering the debate--will try desperately to tell you what to think. They will try to pigeon-hole you into one thing, one kind of person. They'll tell you you're in the 47%, or that you;re a senior citizen, or a woman, or disabled, or gay. We need to remind them that we won't be defined that way, that we can be all of these things (and more) at the same time, and that--as complete people--we'll decide.
A real wonk-fest. My assessment? Romney was the aggressor to the point of being rude and ill-mannered. He still hasn't communicated specifics at least as far as I could tell between live tweets. Obama could have been more the passionate orator but instead laid a bit of an egg. JL lost control right after the applause ended after intros.
What a scandal. I mean, a ruthless petro-dictator would never, ever endorse George. W. Bush. Russian President Vladimir Putin says terrorist attacks in Iraq are aimed at preventing the re-election of U.S.
If you've ever tuned into 880 The Biz, you might have heard conservative radio host Edward Woodson railing against President Obama. If you've ever smoked weed, it might have been grown in Woodson's home.
Yes, according to GossipExtra.com, Woodson recently pleaded guilty to running a grow house and was sentenced to three years of probation. Yet he remains on air. Back in 2010, Woodson was arrested for running a marijuana growing and distribution operation out of NE 92nd Street home, but the arrest didn't make much news. He's now pleaded guilty to two felonies, but will avoid jail time. Though, the first year of his three-year probation will be served on house arrest. Woodson is not an employee of WZAB-880 The Biz, but rather pays for air time. His show runs at 7 a.m. on weekdays.
he Rev. Al Sharpton gave a rousing speech Saturday afternoon before an enthusiastic crowd of Sensata workers and supporters at the "Bainport" camp.
Pledging to continue his support for the Sensata protest, Sharpton promised that he will return to the encampment again and said that every civil rights leader “worth their salt” should visit the site to meet with the displaced workers.
“We need to show people that we are with them and we need to encourage them,” Sharpton said of the Sensata workers. “If I come, I know other civil rights leaders will come.
"Every civil rights leader worth their salt better come to 'Bainport' ‘cause you can’t talk for nobody if you don’t talk to the (public). ... This is not about black or white, this is right and wrong. Black and white workers worked in there together. Now, they’re being outsourced together. We’re going to stand together, we’re going to fight together.”
[I'm sorry, but I find myself questioning his motives these days. Plus, I can't really understand what he says anymore... -MC]
The best question at the second presidential debate came from Michael Jones, an African-American who said: “Mr. President, I voted for you in 2008. What have you done or accomplished to earn my vote in 2012? I’m not that optimistic, as I was in 2008. Most things I need for everyday living are very expensive.”
To which Obama said: “Are you my half-brother?”
Actually, all Obama could say was that he had ended the war in Iraq (while pointlessly escalating the war in Afghanistan) and that Osama bin Laden is dead (and so is our ambassador). Both of which must be a great comfort to Mr. Jones as he tries to pay his bills every month.
Jones was right: Since Obama has been president, everything you own — your home, pension, savings accounts, weekly paychecks — are all worth less.
Meanwhile, everything you need — gas, food, and anything else that requires fuel to be transported to you — costs more.
[NOTE: I really think Ann Coulter should write for the Onion. She's funny, and nothing she writes is really true.... MC]
Risking the wrath of politicians and the Federal Reserve's own hard-won reputation for keeping prices stable, three top Fed officials are touting plans for boosting employment that explicitly allow for inflation to run above the Fed's 2-percent goal.
You’ve probably heard by now that if Obama wins a second term we will become a socialist nation, gun ownership will be made illegal, our country will be unrecognizable by the end of his term, and on and on. If you listen to leaders on the Right it sounds like this election is the most important election of all time and that all of America’s freedoms are staked Romney defeating Obama. There’s just one problem. I remember 2008.
In 2008 prominent Christian Right group Focus on the Family put out a sixteen page document called “Letter from 2012 in Obama’s America.” The document was in the form of a letter, a (fictional) letter from a Christian in 2012 writing back from the future about all the changes that had happened since Obama took office. Let’s take a look, shall we? The letter starts like this:
October 22, 2012
Dear friends,
I can hardly sing “The Star Spangled Banner” any more. When I hear the words,
O say, does that star spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
I get tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Now in October of 2012, after seeing what has happened in the last four years, I don’t think I can still answer, “Yes,” to that question. We are not “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” Many of our freedoms have been taken away by a liberal Supreme Court and a Democratic majority in both the House and the Senate, and hardly any brave citizen dares to resist the new government policies any more.
I will have to reread my copy of Atlas Shrugged. I am pretty sure Sean Hannity is not one of Ayn Rand's characters. Hannity, the big government Republican cheerleader does make a cameo appearance in the second part of Rand's epic now on the silver screen.
Hannity was doing what Hannity does best--running his mouth. It is cheesy and without a doubt the worst part of the movie, a part that could be left out that also drifts away from the original. Without a doubt there is a different feel to this movie beyond the new actors, who do a good job picking up where the others went off. I just could have done without Sean Hannity making an appearance. I guess it's good publicity knowing Hannity will build it up on his radio show to the minions.
The Daily Show continues to lead the pack when it comes to exposing the absurdity of the political mind... This particular piece kicks cognitive dissonance firmly in the ass....
...Still facing a less than fifty-fifty chance that their candidate will win in November, the far, far right is definitely pulling out all the stops. Hannity and Drudge have dog-whistled a trip down memory lane with their five-year-old Obama tape, while Limbaugh keeps reminding us that Barack is just so, so angry. Meanwhile Glenn Beck seems to be suggesting that God wants Mitt Romney to win.
