SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) — Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, and his LDS faith, have been put under a microscope this presidential election; possibly the harshest attack yet coming from MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell. O'Donnell has completely crossed the line here, and wins my award for most despicable pundit of the week. His diatribe could have been written by Karl Rove.

These days, untruths and falsehoods whisper to millions through the Internet and social media. If people are believing what they want to, then it's time to mourn for facts. By NPR staff "In journalism, in health [and] in education we tend to take the attitude that more information is better, and so there's been an assumption that if we put the correct information out there, the facts will prevail," [Dartmouth political scientist Brendan] Nyhan says. "Unfortunately, that's not always true." .... "That trend toward polarization has exacerbated this divergence in factual perceptions, to the point that it seems like we've lost something," he says. It's simply too hard to walk back misconceptions once they're out in the wild, Nyhan says, whether put there by political elites or another source. If there was a greater reputational price to pay for putting falsehoods out there, he says, perhaps there would be fewer of them in the first place. [MORE]

There is no direct correlation between the intelligence and knowledge of the political expert and the quality of his analyses and forecasts, argues Tetlock, a political psychologist at UC Berkeley. What the pundit was thinking mattered less than how he was thinking.
To prove his point, Tetlock gathered and analyzed more than eighty thousand forecasts by academics and journalists about a variety of global issues, including the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the apartheid system in South Africa, discovering—surprise, surprise—that the experts were wrong more often than blind chance.

Yesterday I watched a few minutes of a clip in which Sean Hannity and Michelle Malkin tag-teamed an inordinately civil Juan Williams over the subject of Occupy Wall Street. The Hannity-Malkin strategy, apparently, was to distort, deprecate, and interrupt as much as humanly possible.
