Ryan, whose selection as Romney’s running mate was once considered key to carrying Wisconsin for the Republicans, turned out to be a miserable addition to the ticket. Not only didn’t he help win the state, he couldn’t even win his hometown of Janesville, which went overwhelmingly for the Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, and surrounding Rock County, which gave the Romney/Ryan ticket just 39 percent of the vote.


It was even worse in Ryan's “safety” race for his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. The seven-term congressman kept his seat, thanks to partisan redistricting that grabbed off a chunk of Republican Waukesha County and attached it to Ryan’s southeastern Wisconsin district. Yet, despite the machinations that made his 1st District decidedly more Republican, prevailed by the narrowest margin of his career -- over Democratic challenger Rob Zerban. [MORE]

Dan, I'm pretty sure you already knew the answer to your question. Almost all were incumbents. According to Politico, 10 House Dems and 13 House GOP reps lost in 2012 (http://www.politico.com/blogs/charlie-mahtesian/2012/11/election-incumbents-defeated-148708.html). Only 1 Senator, Scott Brown (R) in MA was ousted. According to Lessig, 95% of House election winners were the ones who spent the most money (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuSerfOsIXI). <br><br>You describe it pretty well above, so I have to ask are you sincerely asking if a cycle of corruption exists?

Sorry, but I felt the need to spell it out completely Greg. I think it is important to point out that money is just a tool. It can be used for good or for evil. I was trying to put an exclamation point on the evil nature of its use in politics by showing the true cause and affect of money -- corruption of the system.

Data discussed in this report indicates that, contrary to what I would have expected, "open" primaries do NOT result in more moderate candidates representing their parties in the general elections. Why not? Two words: voter apathy.

This report is silly. We have extremist candidates because we have become an extremist nation. We used to be content with boxing. Two guys duking it out with padded gloves. No we have the UFC, where most fights end with a brutal kick to the head or with one guy conceding to prevent the other guy from choking him out or breaking his arm. Moderation is also not rewarded in our 1% media. We want our talk shows to be violent and confrontational. We like Jerry Springer more than we like Oprah. Even the exploits of the illiterate Jersey Shore crowd weren't enough. Now we have Mob Wives threatening to off each other every week. In short, our politics is a perfect reflection of what we've become as a society. The only question now is, how far down the evolutionary scale will we slide before realizing that we are falling for the same "bread and circus" act that the Roman ruling class used to keep the populace anesthetized while they did whatever they wanted? Don' think that's true? Then explain to me why else 90 million eligible voters didn't bother showing up to the polls in 2012. WAKE UP AMERICA. We're letting Washington and the 1% play us for suckers.
