Blockchain is one of the most exciting tech trends at the moment. It is a distributed, encrypted database model that has the potential to solve many problems around online trust and security. Many people know it as the technology that underpins Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general. However, its potential uses are far broader, encompassing digital “smart” contracts, logistics and supply chain provenance and security, and protection against identity theft. There are countless others – blockchain evangelists say it can potentially be used to improve security and integrity in any system that involves multiple parties sharing access to a database.

Whenever something new comes along, a few early adopters experiment without expectation, while the large majority questions the usefulness and viability of the endeavor. The gap between these two groups of people can stay rather vast for quite a long time. One one hand, those experimenting are having fun, making mistakes and feeding the emergent nature of collective invention. At the same time, the other group holds firm with their original assessment looking for permission to reconsider from a trusted, cultural oracle. The Metaverse is unique in that it will emerge over time through experimentation, failure, learning lessons, pivots and open minds who want to push the boundaries of the human experience. Many of those powering this emergence are providing thoughtful concepts for the large majority to digest and determine value.

Confused about what’s what in the virtual world? If so, you’re certainly not alone.
The simplest way to think about augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) is that they are a bridge between the digital and physical worlds, letting you take in information and content visually — the same way you take in the world.
The following is a handy guide to deciphering what’s what in the high-tech world of AR and VR.

Big Tech companies like Meta and Google were among the first to allow some employees to work from home permanently, but they have simultaneously been spending billions of dollars expanding their office spaces. Doubling down on offices may seem counterintuitive to the many tech workers who continue to work remotely. In January, 48 percent of people in computer and math fields and 35 percent of those in architecture or engineering said they had worked from home at some point because of the pandemic, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This report, co-authored by Faethm and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), combines BCG's world-leading capabilities in strategic workforce planning, with the most advanced analytics available, on the impact of new technologies on jobs and work from Faethm. The report focuses on three different markets - the USA, Germany and Australia - and takes into account a range of different scenarios from the impact of COVID-19. The increasing adoption of automation, artificial intelligence (AI), and other technologies suggests that the role of humans in the economy will shrink drastically, wiping out millions of jobs in the process. COVID-19 accelerated this effect in 2020 and will likely boost digitization, and perhaps establish it permanently, in some areas. However, the real picture is more nuanced: though these technologies will eliminate some jobs, they will create many others. Governments, companies, and individuals all need to understand these shifts when they plan for the future.

The digital revolution forced every organization to reinvent itself, or at least rethink how it goes about doing business. Most large companies have invested substantial cash in what is generally labelled “digital transformation.” While those investments are projected to top $6.8 trillion by 2023, they’re often made without seeing clear benefits or ROI. Although these failures have multiple causes, they are generally the result of underestimating the various steps or stages required to successfully execute a transformation agenda.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, it's clear that working from home (WFH) is here to stay. Many employees seek the autonomy and flexibility afforded by WFH. So in order to attract top talent, and dodge the destructive path of the Turnover Tsunami and The Great Resignation, organizations need to allow for remote, hybrid, or mixed-mode work arrangements for the foreseeable future.
But what impact does remote work have on an employee's ability to do their work effectively? There are, not surprisingly, lots of moving parts to the picture.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was difficult to know if WFH policies positively impacted employees' productivity. There were arguments on both sides, with anecdote and intuition framing people's points of view.
