Et de 12. L’Estonie a reçu un second lot de CAESAR qui lui permettra d’armer une seconde batterie d’artillerie, annonçaient hier les forces de défense du pays balte. Six CAESAR Mk I sont venus s’ajouter aux six livrés par KNDS France en début d’année à l’armée estonienne, parachevant la tranche ferme d’un contrat notifié il y a un peu plus d’un an lors du salon de défense Eurosatory. Ils seront opérés par le régiment d’artillerie inféodé à l’unique division estonienne. Dès février, l’Estonie formait ses premiers artilleurs à partir des premières pièces perçues. Les premiers exercices de tirs suivaient en mars, les artilleurs estoniens mobilisant le système de commandement et de conduite (C2) des feux « national », Tooru (Thor). Conformément au calendrier, une seconde batterie a été formée en juillet à partir de réservistes et à l’issue d’un entraînement dédié. Le niveau d’automatisation du CAESAR, « combiné à une simplicité suffisante, permet de former les équipes de pièce en quelques semaines », relève à ce titre la Défense estonienne. Les cadences ne sont pas près de baisser pour la ligne d’intégration roannaise de KNDS, qui prévoit de production en 2025. Non seulement le contrat estonien contient une clause pour l’achat de systèmes supplémentaires, mais d’autres pays se préparent à rejoindre le club. Des commandes sont en effet attendues à court terme de la part du Portugal, de la Slovénie, de la Croatie et de la Bulgarie. Côté français, l’armée de Terre a désormais 80 pièces en service au dernier décompte, contre 76 auparavant, et attend un premier CAESAR Mk II pour fin 2026.
