Here are some important questions I ... Leona: This may require some thinking, but it may make tertiary education more transparent. Presenting a completely clear crystal ball of each student’s future at a particular institution, would of course not be possible, because it also depends on the commitments that the student makes. Informing students in advance what they can expect and doing this according to certain standards indeed reflects an awareness of the trend that students are consumers/the customers of a particular institution.
Social Media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest have ushered in visual marketing as the breakout trend for 2012. Leona: It is mentioned that visual content is becoming an increasingly important force for communication online. This corresponds with what we knew all along - man is a visual being. That is why advertisements also often include visually appealing/unusal images to grab consumers' attention.
Viral marketing spreads like a virus in a planned way. Then a guy like me thinks, “why they call it viral marketing and not bacterial? Leona: The ultimate goal of viral marketing is to make consumers part of the campaign and turn them into brand/company agents - clever.

Leona Ungerer's insight:
Women indeed often form the 'backbone' of consumer purchases - they are the main decision-makers for many product categories, and often are the main purchasers for their household unit. The media indeed may contribute toward maintaining outdated gender stereotypes.
Consumer risk is an economic concept relating to the risk consumers are willing to take when purchasing goods or services.
Leona: New developments, such as online shopping bring with them the same types of risk, but disguised in different formats.
Leona: An increased access to information results in better informed consumers, and businesses have to respect this. It is advisable for companies to be transparent in their dealings with consumers.
Leona: Wonder if this will work in South Africa. Maybe not advisable because of the large number of 'vulnerable' consumers/high levels of household debt. |
When a potential customer is trying to find a business online, they no longer rely on “the wisdom of crowds,” as they did in the Internet search-based days of the early 2000s. Leona: Reflecting the impact of word-of-mouth on consumer decision-making and that word-of-mouth can even take the form of information obtained from social media.
