Chippenham organisations still closed 100 days after flooding

Chippenham organisations still closed 100 days after flooding | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
Chippenham, Wiltshire, rarely floods but the effects of Storm Bert are still clear 100 days on.
PIRatE Lab's insight:
It has been over 100 days since Storm Bert caused severe flooding in Chippenham, Wiltshire. The storm, which struck in late November 2024, led to significant damage in the town center, with many organizations still unable to use their buildings. Residents and business owners have described the experience as surreal, with ongoing recovery efforts highlighting the community's resilience
Kristiann G's comment, March 8, 2:40 AM
I wonder if, in the past, the floods were shorter in duration. It is insane to see that a town has been flooded for 100 days.
David N. Folino's comment, March 10, 12:54 PM
With water damage lasting that long the entire city will need rebuilding. 100 days is more than enough to destroy foundations.

What does an acid trip typically feel like? Each person’s experience with acid will be different. Indeed, each trip may be different. One might be very light, but others can take a frightening and overwhelming turn. Symptoms may begin to show 20 to 90 minutesTrusted Source after taking a dose. The main episode can last several hours. Acid is a long-acting drug. It stays in the body 6 to 15 hoursTrusted Source. Most acid trips won’t last more than 9 hours. The trip During this period of “tripping” or active effects, you may begin to experience sensationalized perceptions of what’s happening around you. This can include “seeing” color or “tasting” sounds. Stationary items, like furniture, may begin to “move” or swell or shrink before your eyes. Coming down Coming down from the trip will feel like you’re gradually returning to Earth. Signs may begin to lessen in intensity. You may feel tired after getting through the hours-long trip and want to sleep. Afterglow An “afterglow” is possible for several hours after the end of the trip, too. This may feel like everything is “lighter” or “brighter” than before the trip. You may also have moments of flashbacks for several hours, even days, after the acid trip is over. Microdosing A microdose is a small dose of a psychedelic drug like LSD, often one-tenth of a normal dose. It’s sometimes used to help treat symptoms of anxiety and depression, but it’s not meant to completely encompass your day. However, little is known about the long-term effects of this practice. This article goes over how nature can help us achieve our goal set forth by the paris climate agreement, which is to limit global temperature rise to less than 2 degrees celcius. If we are smart and careful we can use nature as our ally to help fight climate change. However if we are not so smart nature could hinder our fight with rising global temperatures and contribute ultimately to natures desctruction.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order late Thursday to end public funding of National Public Radio and PBS to stop what he called "biased and partisan news coverage."

Horrifying the extent this administration is willing to go to cut out their 'enemies' who are really just people reporting the reality in a way differing from how he likes it.

Worst Coral Mass Bleaching on Record Caused By Warming Oceans

Worst Coral Mass Bleaching on Record Caused By Warming Oceans | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
The world is experiencing the most intense global coral bleaching event on record, with 84 percent of reefs experiencing heat stress from warming oceans
PIRatE Lab's insight:
Since January 1, 2023, 84% of the world’s coral reefs have experienced bleaching due to unusually high ocean temperatures. This marks the fourth and most severe global bleaching event on record, surpassing the 2014–2017 event and affecting reefs in at least 82 countries and territories. The bleaching is caused by heat stress disrupting the symbiosis between coral and algae, leading to weakened corals and potential reef collapse.
Barbara Kim's comment, April 30, 5:05 PM
Coral bleaching has been a problem but i was surprised that 84% of the worlds coral reefs have experienced bleaching! It’s scary to think we might lose reefs forever because of rising ocean temperatures

The Major NJ Wildfire Shows Unexpected Urban Areas Are at Risk | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
A forest fire that erupted in New Jersey and spread overnight highlights the major wildfire risk faced by the state and other urban areas
PIRatE Lab's insight:
A fast-moving wildfire known as the Jones Road Fire has burned over 12,000 acres in New Jersey's Pinelands, highlighting the state’s growing wildfire risk due to prolonged drought, dry conditions, and population density. The region’s fire-prone ecosystem, especially in the spring, combined with wind-driven embers and quick-drying fuels like pine needles, contributed to the fire’s rapid spread into populated areas. Although New Jersey aggressively manages wildfires, climate change and erratic precipitation patterns are likely to intensify future fire risks.

Study Estimates Fossil Fuel Giants Have Inflicted $28 Trillion in Climate Damage Worldwide

Study Estimates Fossil Fuel Giants Have Inflicted $28 Trillion in Climate Damage Worldwide | Coastal Restoration | Scoop.it
Fossil fuel giants have caused $28 trillion in climate damages, more than all goods and services produced in the US last year. Who will hold them accountable for the destruction they've caused? It's time for polluters to pay for the damage they've inflicted on our planet. #ClimateCrisis #PollutersPay
Carolyn Chaput's comment, April 25, 12:46 AM
Stories like this make it all the more frustrating that the average person is often pressured to make "green" choices as if we were the main source of climate damages. While choosing more sustainable options (reusable items, public transportation, etc.) can help, real change must target fossil fuel companies at the top rather than individual consumers at the bottom.
Brandon Hidalgo's comment, April 26, 3:55 AM
While this is an astounding dollar amount of damage influcted by these companies, in some ways the affect of these damages and irreparable and in alot of ways priceless. For example the species unnaturally pushed to extinction and invasive species being able to flourish in irregular habitats
