The new president of Italy’s fresh produce association Fruitimprese was elected on Friday in Rome. Marco Salvi succeeds Luigi Peviani, who led the association for three terms, from 2003 to present. "The value of Italy’s exports in 10 years grew by only 110%”.

Le ministre espagnol de l’agriculture et de la pêche avait récemment annoncé une possible adoption de l’accord de pêche en juin 2012 (voir article). La visite au Maroc de la Commissaire européenne à la Pêche et aux affaires maritimes, Maria Damanaki, semble confirmer les choses. Seulement, les officiels marocains mettent en garde contre « le respect total » des ressources halieutiques nationales. Toutefois, L’Espagne reste confiante pour juin.

La production céréalière du Maroc devrait chuter de près de moitié pour l'année 2012-2013 par rapport à la récolte précédente en raison de la sécheresse, a déclaré mardi le ministre de l'agriculture Abdelaziz Akhennouch.

Le débat de haut niveau que l’Assemblée générale a consacré aujourd’hui au problème de la volatilité excessive des prix des produits alimentaires a été l’occasion pour les États Membres d’attribuer sans détour ce phénomène à « la financiarisation » des marchés agricoles et de réclamer une plus grande transparence des opérations financières.

Selon le ministre de l’Agriculture et du développement rural, Rachid Benaïssa, la prochaine récolte céréalière s’annonce « exceptionnelle ». Elle devrait atteindre au moins 55 millions de quintaux, contre 42 millions en 2010/2011. Pour y faire face, les coopératives de céréales et de légumes secs (CCLS) sont autorisées à réquisitionner les espaces de stockage appartenant aux privés.

EU Member State experts have supported the European Commission’s proposal to update the rules on bluetongue as reported outbreaks continue to fall across the Union. In a meeting earlier this month the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCoFCAH) supported the use of inactivated vaccines against bluetongue in all parts of the EU.

Turkey is rife with urban legends about the kebab maker who slips donkey meat into his mince to lower costs or the sausage maker whose sucuk (spicy beef sausage) is actually made of horse meat. Turns out these tales are not just the product of the Turkish imagination, with recent inspections made by Turkey's Ministry of Agriculture indicating that several products found on supermarket shelves contain some very troubling ingredients.

Une analyse génétique portant sur de l'ADN vieux de 5000 ans, extrait de restes humains datant de la fin de l'âge de pierre, permet d'éclairer de manière saisissante l'arrivée et le développement de l'agriculture en Europe. L'étude d'archéologie qui vient d'être publiée dans la revue Science, menée par des chercheurs danois et suédois, montre clairement que l'agriculture s'est bien diffusée des pays du Sud vers ceux du Nord à cette époque-là.
