The Cayo Welcome Center was unveiled yesterday. The SISE Town Council got some great pictures of the celebration. Afterwards, they had the La Ruta Maya Cultural Night. 1000's came out to enjoy the festivities. Panerrifix, the amazing steel band, will be playing at Banana Bank tomorrow night. The La Ruta Maya starts tomorrow at 7:00am, under the Hawkesworth Bridge, and finishes at Banana Bank. A big thanks to the Belmopan City Council for sponsoring the event.
Feelgood news of the day. The Bullet Tree Preschool visited the San Ignacio Public Library to see some stories acted out. Great way to celebrate Children's Month.
"Preschool visit for activities and stories" Tonight at Meluchi's, they'll be having a La Ruta Maya pre-party. DJ Gilla will be mixing. Clips and pictures of the previous LRM's will be showing on their big screen. You'll be able to see many of the teams there since they'll be picking up their race information. Great story about the Howler Monkey that was hit by a car, and saved by the Belize Wildlife Referral Clinic a month ago. It chronicles the story from the day of the accident to this week. Dr. Isabelle and her team at the BWRC saved Mia, and she's been rehabilitating at Wildtracks ever since. She'll be released into the wild later this year.
"Mia was later taken to the Belize Wildlife and Referral Clinic where the medical team discovered that she had suffered severe head trauma in the accident. Dr. Isabelle and her team administered stabilization treatment, fluid therapy and intensive care for several days. On February 6th, she was placed on board a Lighhawk flight en route to Wildtracks, a manatee and primate rehabilitation center in the village of Sarteneja, run by Paul Walker, a zoologist, and his wife, Zoe, to undergo careful rehabilitation. Several weeks later, Valerie called Paul to check on Mia's progress." The San Ignacio Public Library is having Cayo schools visit for Children's Month. Kiddie Kinder Preschool visited for some storytelling. Thank you, SIPL!
"'Molding Today's learner's into tomorrow's leaders'. Stories and activities for CSM began today at the SIPL." The main foundation form walls have been completed for Sacred Heart College's new auditorium. It should be done in time for graduation. They are doing a cement drive, so if you'd like to donate a bag, please drop one off.
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151465240106162.1073741829.265387546161 The Bum Squad had a successful Bumsplash pool party at Midas Resort Saturday. Danny Chung was there to capture the moment. Tomorrow in Belmopan, at the Univestiy of Belize's gymnasium, there will be the National Youth Development Policy Launch for Cayo. It'll be from 4pm until 6pm. Nice article with some great pictures about a Belize vacation, with 4 days in Cayo. They really caught some spectacular shots of everything from basalisks to hummingbirds to owls. They rave about how much they loved Pook's Hill the most.
"Of the four places we stayed on the trip, Pook’s Hill was undeniably my favorite and I think everyone else would agree. The accommodations were excellent, the food extraordinary, and the owner and all of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and seemed thrilled to have us stay and enjoy their little place in paradise. Wandering the grounds were a few prehistoric-looking Basilisk Lizards generally sunning themselves and waiting for flying insects, such as this male... Another fascinating experience at Pook’s Hill was listening to a mating pair of Spectacled Owls calling to each other from their hidden perches near our cabanas at dusk, and one night spotting an immature sitting in a leafless tree, apparently not yet having learned the importance of leaves for concealing your presence." The Benque House of Culture had their Women in Arts Fiesta Saturday, at the beautiful Centennial Park, in honor of Women's Month. Bella Dee's Soaps was there.
"Bella Dee's would like to thank NICH Benque House Of Culture for the opportunity to participate in the 5th Women in Arts Fiesta, which was held in Benque Viejo this past Saturday. Bella Dee's would also like to thank everyone who supported us by buying soaps or gave words of encouragement. I had the opportunity to meet some amazingly talented women, like Marilu Uck, who does some seriously, wonderful embroidery; so different from all the rest. To see her work, give her a call at 624-1953." Midas had their big Saturday this past weekend at the Ice Bar, with the Bumsplash Pool Party during the day, and In Bloom playing at night. Looks like In Bloom had a great time. Encore!
In other news, Midas will be doing live concerts a few times a month. They'll have their Abraxas Rock Anthem Concert on March 16th. In Bloom will open that night.
"LIVE music at Midas Resort a night of rock ballads... |
The Soul Project is having another Open Mic night tonight. If you play, bring your instrument, and hit the stage. Open Mic nights at the Soul Project are always a great time.
In a related note, In Bloom will be playing tonight at Lucky 5. The World Culture Band and Barefoot Skinny will also be playing there.
Tomorrow night, the Soul Project will screen Beasts of the Southern Wild.
The Rotary District 4250 Conference Gala at the Bedran Hall made for an entertaining night. SHJC's Tourism students did a great job.
"The Bedran Hall at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel is where Rotary's Grand Gala was held. The F&B students from Sacred Heart Junior College once again did a fantastic job with the food and drinks." Lonely Planet have their Traveler's Choice lists out for 2013, and Belize is ranked 7th on the Relaxing list. Of course!
"No surprises here. All of the top 10 destinations for relaxing are known for their amazing beaches. Most are also well-known for their unhurried ‘island time’ sensibility."

"Learn the skills of proper communication and the steps to making decisions." The Bishop Martin Neighborhood Watch had a cleanup this weekend. The SISE Town Council and the Cayo Neighborhood Watch Association were there to lend a hand in cleaning up the community. Great work! Betta No Litta! Creative Kaos is the upcoming film documentary about how they made Kurse a di Xtabai, a film shot entirely in Cayo, in just 3 months. Daniel Velazquez has released the first teaser trailer for it. 'A film training experiment in the jungle' says it all. Kurse a di Xtabai was the opening film for last year's Belize Film Festival, and it won the creative arts award. |
