'Researchers modelling a hypothetical global outbreak of flu found that fast-tracking vaccine development could cut deaths from 58.5m to 23.9m.
If the vaccines were then distributed equitably, according to population size rather than purchasing power, a further 2.7m lives could be saved overall.
However, in high-income countries, that solidarity-based approach would see deaths rise from 2.4m to 3.9m.'

Effectiveness of Media Literacy in Identifying Health Misinformation Among Digital Media Users (Journal for Social Science Studies):

Glimpse: This study looks at how media literacy and digital media users' capacity to spot false information about health are related. The study employed a quantitative research design and administered a closed-ended questionnaire to digital media users, evaluating their media literacy abilities and their capacity to discern between accurate, deceptive, and ambiguous health information. The responses were examined using descriptive statistics. The results show that media literacy helps people navigate the digital health-information environment and critically assess online health information. In order to increase awareness of the dangers of health misinformation and lessen its spread, the study also emphasizes the significance of media literacy for journalists, editors, and news providers.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t happening. The only importance is that it shows the president doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
If they try to take MMR off market, companies will sue and likely win (it would be a very stupid move during the Trump/Kennedy measles outbreaks).

They can’t make companies produce a new product. And this one is probably impossible from the get-go. Dosing is set to be effective. Very small doses if active material won’t get you where you need. Less water? It’s already a small amount: 0.5 ml, a tenth of a teaspoon. And trials for license take years; even if the companies were willing, and they’re not going to be, there would be real recruitment issues, blinding issues, and it would take time (and is unlikely to be effective).

So this is empty words that should be seen, mostly, as showing that the President doesn’t understand vaccines and doesn’t have a clue about them.

In October 1976, the US launched a massive public health campaign and vaccinated over 45 million people against a deadly flu pandemic that never actually arrived.

The alarm was raised earlier that year when a new swine-origin flu strain surfaced among soldiers at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Fearing a repeat of the devastating 1918 flu outbreak, health officials acted fast and rolled out a national vaccine.

However, the virus never spread beyond Fort Dix, but a rare nerve-damaging side effect called Guillain–Barré syndrome was linked to the vaccine, affecting about 1 in every 100,000 people. Officials halted the program just two months later.

Looking back, it is easy to criticize the choice using facts no one had at the time. But public health leaders faced an impossible trade-off: if you wait for 100% certainty before acting, you risk losing thousands of lives to an outbreak. If you act immediately on early data, you risk real harm for a threat that might never materialize.

One wonders about the scientific integrity of the BMJ or the lack of context of another paper that shows an anti-vaccine narative there. What is frustrating thing about this article is that it does not really acknowledge the function of VAERS, falling seemingly inadvertently into line with the antivax view of VAERS as the be-all and end-all of vaccine safety monitoring, when in fact VAERS is an early warning system whose signals cannot be taken at face value and must be investigated using more rigorous methodology. Just as frustrating is its failure even to acknowledge that any algorithm chosen to analyze VAERS reports would involve deciding upon how much of a trade-off between sensitivity and specificity would be ideal, a decision about which reasonable scientists can have reasonable scientific and public health policy disagreements, as there are pros and cons to every approach.
