📌 In our recent publication in Clinical Infectious Diseases, we address the importance and how to trust real and scientific information from peer-reviewed studies and publications in qualified journals, fighting misinformation, vaccine hesitancy, the dangers of non-peer reviewed preprints, and the negative effect of AI, among others. The balance is important. We do have to hear parents, patients and public concerns, but as experts we have to show the compelling evidence and dramatic impact of vaccines over decades.

Ted Cruz asked me for this evidence in April 2021. I sent it to his committee. This week he posted a number drawn from the same paper.

The Fauci text messages are real. In January 2021 he raised a concern about fever after the second dose. His words: "theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester." The concern was reasonable. Safety monitoring means naming a theoretical risk and then looking for it.

The looking happened. The answer came back.

The CDC's v-safe registry followed 3,958 vaccinated pregnancies. By the March 2021 cutoff, 827 had finished. The registry logged 712 live births and 104 miscarriages. That is 12.6%. The background miscarriage rate in known pregnancies runs 11% to 22%.

Someone then removed 700 women from the count. All 700 received the vaccine in the third trimester. All 700 had healthy babies. That leaves 127 pregnancies. 104 divided by 127 is 82%.

A healthy pregnancy takes nine months to finish. A miscarriage finishes in weeks. An early snapshot of a pregnancy registry always oversamples losses. The authors said so in the paper.

CDC published the follow-up in September 2021. Among 2,456 women vaccinated before conception or before 20 weeks, 14% reported a miscarriage. ACOG and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine both call the vaccine safe in pregnancy.

Fauci was not reading a trial result in that text thread. He was texting the Surgeon General and the incoming CDC director about what to tell women. Three federal health officials were reasoning from a mechanism. The drugmakers had kept pregnant women out of the COVID vaccine trials.

That exclusion is the story. It left a hole in the first-trimester data. A bad number moved into the hole and stayed there for five years.

The FDA can require pregnancy data as a condition of approval. Congress can fund those trials. Manufacturers can enroll pregnant women instead of excluding them by default. Those levers existed in 2020. They still exist.

The post came down on Thursday night. Cruz has not commented. The 82% is still in sworn congressional testimony from May 2025.

Glimpse: In research that involve deception, debriefings are crucial from an ethical standpoint. However, misinformation experiments present a special problem because they must both expose the deception and warn about misinformation. Participants in a preregistered U.S. trial (N = 896) were given a specific debriefing that included fact-checks and source links, a generic caution, or no debriefing at all. Neither strategy decreased participants' belief in fresh disinformation; only the particular debriefing decreased their belief in the incorrect claims they had come across. Broad warnings may inadvertently increase skepticism, as evidenced by the general debriefing's modest decrease in belief in true news. Both debriefings enhanced attitudes toward the study and perceptions of transparency, demonstrating the efficacy and ethics of particular, evidence-based debriefings in disinformation research.

“The Executive Order isn’t law, so we don’t need to be concerned.”

We know legal force and public-health impact aren’t the same thing.

No, an EO doesn’t instantly rewrite all state vaccine laws, but it can still change federal policy, direct agencies, influence states, and perhaps most importantly, shape public perception.

We already know we have vaccine hesitancy.

When the federal government signals to the public that previously routine childhood vaccines shouldn’t be routinely recommended, that message resonates with anti-vaxx and vaccine-hesitant communities.

The concern isn’t “everyone is suddenly unvaccinated.” To health and public health professionals, it is what this EO normalizes, what it communicates, and where the precedent could lead. An executive order doesn’t have to be a law to have consequences.

The childhood vaccine schedule affects recommendations, clinical practice, vaccine availability, insurance coverage, public programs, and ultimately, access to the vaccines themselves.

The biggest immediate concern with the proposed MMR change is that the order calls for three separate vaccines **before the individual products are even available domestically**

That creates a problem. A child can't receive a vaccine that isn't available, and every additional appointment or delay creates another opportunity for a child to remain unprotected.

There are also important unanswered questions about what happens to insurance, Medicaid, CHIP, and VFC coverage if vaccines are moved out of the routine federal recommendations.

Those consequences aren't automatic, and they won't necessarily happen overnight.

Please keep an eye out for them, though.

Childhood vaccine recommendations must be grounded in science. No new evidence has been found to justify significant changes to childhood immunization guidance, and decades of research involving millions of people show no link between vaccines and autism.
Pharmacists are trusted, accessible clinicians who bring essential expertise to the shared clinical decision-making process by interpreting evolving evidence and guidance, assessing each patient’s needs, answering questions, and helping families make informed decisions about vaccines.
Patients, parents, and caregivers can continue to turn to their pharmacist for clear, evidence-based guidance about what is right for them and their families.
APhA will continue to stand up for pharmacists’ clinical autonomy, champion their role as immunization experts, and advocate for their voices to remain central to vaccine policy and patient care. #forpharmacy

Another executive order that will see no execution :)

On entend souvent que le peuple suisse a voté en 2009 pour le remboursement de l'homéopathie mais après une documentation assez complète (lecture du texte de loi voté, des débats au Parlement, des informations officielles données à la population, des articles de presse, etc), il s'avère que c'est FAUX.

Mais pour éviter mes propres biais et erreurs d'interprétation, j'ai demandé à ChatGPT :
- Est-ce que les Suisses ont voté pour le remboursement de l'homéopathie, oui ou non ?

- Non. Les Suisses n’ont pas voté directement pour le remboursement de l’homéopathie.
Le 17 mai 2009, la question soumise au vote était :
« Acceptez-vous l’article constitutionnel “Pour la prise en compte des médecines complémentaires” ? »

Le texte constitutionnel adopté disait seulement :
« La Confédération et les cantons pourvoient, dans les limites de leurs compétences respectives, à la prise en compte des médecines complémentaires. »

Et surtout, la brochure officielle précisait noir sur blanc que cet article « fixe un principe général mais ne prescrit pas les modalités de sa mise en œuvre » et qu’il appartiendrait ensuite au Parlement de décider des mesures concrètes.

Le remboursement par l’assurance de base faisait bien partie des sujets discutés au Parlement, mais ce n’était pas l’objet précis soumis au peuple : la brochure indique que certains parlementaires souhaitaient inscrire certaines méthodes dans le catalogue des prestations remboursées, sous conditions d’efficacité, d’adéquation et d’économicité.

Donc, formulation rigoureuse :

Les Suisses ont voté pour inscrire dans la Constitution la “prise en compte des médecines complémentaires”. Ils n’ont pas voté pour que l’homéopathie soit remboursée par l’assurance-maladie obligatoire.

Le remboursement de l’homéopathie a été une décision d’application prise ultérieurement par les autorités, pas la question posée lors du référendum.

The tool was designed to help people better understand the risks and benefits of vaccines.

As measles outbreaks continue in the USA, this easy-to-use tool can help parents visualize the risks of measles versus the vaccine so that we can end these outbreaks. Maybe, just maybe, it might convince parents who are confused by the internet claims about vaccines and the diseases they prevent to get the vaccines for their kids.
