Gilbert C FAURE's insight:
The topic addresses Fake news as a global problem, extracting material focusing on vaccinations, vaccination hesitancy and anti-vax attitudes. The subject is evolving constantly with health consequences all over the world.
This topic became a research action project at CREM (Centre de Recherche sur les mรฉdiations)
Ir covers not only Fake News still thriving on the internet,
but also efforts of many (supranational bodies, scientific societies, researchers...) to improve health literacies of laypeople, and medical students on this sensitive topic...
Fake News related to Covid and Vaccinations slightly decreased compared to other topics such as ukrainian war, gaza war, and politics in USA even sports related informations... but the involvement of politicians in the topic very much increased !

Watching todayโs ACIP meeting, Iโve been reflecting on a very real and very human cognitive trapโone that even intelligent, well-meaning people can fall into.
Itโs the belief that being smart is the same as being right. That oneโs intelligence alone allows them to see truths that somehow generations of dedicated experts, researchers, and practitioners have missedโor are willfully ignoring.
What we witnessed today was not just disagreement. It was, at times, a thoughtless dismissal of the expertise offered by liaison membersโpeople who represent clinical, scientific, and public health communities and who have spent their careers embedded in the realities of immunization science and practice.
This group seems to have convinced themselves that their intelligence grants them a kind of clarity others donโt possess. That they alone are capable of cutting through complexity, seeing hidden truths, and correcting the errors of those who came before them.
Itโs a seductive story. The Galileo narrative. The courageous truth-teller standing against a misguided consensus. But hereโs the hard reality: Most people who think they are Galileoโฆ are not.
Galileo was right because of evidence. Because of rigor. Because of science. Disagreeing with experts isnโt what made him right. Evidence made him right.
This is why process matters. Why humility matters. Why deep engagement with subject matter experts matters. Without that, decisions risk being driven not by evidence, but by overconfidence disguised as insight.
ACIP has always been strongest when it functions as a deliberative, evidence-based, collaborative body. I hope it returns to that.

Agreed but let`s choose our battle here. We won on the COVID and the RSV. Now on losing a lost battle where less than 4% of flu vaccines contained thimerosal, less than 2% of children doses, and 0.3% of pregnant flu doses, is something one could live with. BUT let`s make sure that, if any anti-vaxxer are making this a huge success, we call them out on the futility of this vote and the science showing they are wrong...But again, thimerosal was proven safe with data throughout the world. It has no relationship to autism whatsoever...
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will reexamine current recommendations around childhood vaccination schedules and Hepatitis B immunizations, members of the CDCโs Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices announced during a meeting in Atlanta Wednesday. The committee, which meets three times a year, does not typically garner much public interest. However, this meeting is the first since U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. dismissed all 17 members of the committee and replaced them with a slate of eight hand-picked appointees, many of whom are seen as vaccine skeptics, launching the little-known committee into the national spotlight. Medical experts, including the American Medical Association, expressed dismay at Kennedyโs appointment of the new committee members, which the organization said occurred โwithout transparency and proper vetting to ensure they have the expertise necessary to make vaccine recommendations to protect the health of Americans.โ Supporters of the CDC hold balloons that spell out โRestore ACIPโ at a rally outside the center Wednesday. Jill Nolin/Georgia RecorderโWe urge the Administration to reconsider the removal of the 17 ACIP members who have deep expertise in vaccines so physicians can continue to have confidence in ACIPโs recommendations,โ AMA President Bobby M. Mukkamala said in a statement. Six former ACIP chairs also authored an op-ed after the former committee membersโ dismissal, warning that โif relevant scientific expertise on vaccines is not maintained, access to vaccines may fundamentally change.โ The move was also made in direct contradiction with a promise from Kennedy to Louisiana Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy ahead of the secretaryโs confirmation in February. Cassidy says Kennedy pledged to โmaintain the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionโs Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices without changes.โ Cassidy, a doctor who cast the deciding vote to confirm Kennedy as health secretary, called for the meeting to be delayed until members with more expertise in vaccines could be appointed to the panel, but was unsuccessful. Alaska Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski also expressed concern about the backgrounds of the new panelists. The committee is now chaired by Martin Kulldorff, a doctor and former Harvard Medical School professor who was fired in 2024 after declining the COVID-19 vaccine, and has spoken out against blanket vaccine mandates during the pandemic. โSecretary Kennedy has given this committee a clear mandate to use evidence-based medicine when making vaccine recommendations, and that is what we will do,โ Kulldorff said in his opening remarks. He also disputed characterizations of his skepticism of vaccine mandates as โanti-vax.โ โSome media outlets have been very harsh on the new members of this committee, issuing false accusations and making concerted efforts to put scientists in either a pro- or anti-vaccine box,โ he said. โSuch labels undermine critical scientific inquiry, and it further feeds the flame of vaccine hesitancy. To thoroughly scrutinize and assure the safety and efficacy of vaccines is a pro-vaccine position.โ Other appointees to the committee include Robert Malone, a doctor and biochemist who said he views the label of anti-vaxxer as โhigh praiseโ and Vicky Pebsworth, a regional director for the National Association of Catholic Nurses who also serves on the board of the National Vaccine Information Center, an organization that advocates for vaccine exemptions. One member of the committee, Michael Ross, had already withdrawn from the committee by the time the body convened for the two-day summit in Atlanta. Kennedy, who was attending a โMake America Healthy Againโ event in Oklahoma, was not present at the meeting.โCompletely unprecedentedโAs the committee met inside, dozens of people braved the sweltering heat to hold what they called a โparade of preventable diseasesโ to highlight the dangers of limiting the publicโs access to vaccines. They also called for the committee to be restored to its previous makeup. A whole colorful cast of pathogens were represented just outside the centerโs entrance, from influenza to HPV to meningococcus. Dr. Deblina Datta carried a leg brace to represent polio. โThis is what we donโt want to see again. When we introduce vaccine skepticism, we are going to see people wearing this,โ Datta said holding up the brace. Dr. Deblina Datta, a former CDC worker, carried a leg brace to represent polio Wednesday. Jill Nolin/Georgia RecorderDatta spent more than two decades at CDC working on immunizations, with six years with the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. She called the abrupt overhaul of the committee alarming. โWhile a healthy skepticism of vaccine policy is good, this level of skepticism and the sources of the skeptics being put onto ACIP is calamitous,โ Datta said. โAnd itโs absolutely eroding the publicโs faith in the ACIP to dictate policy.โ Katrina Kretsinger, who retired from the CDC two years ago after working mostly on vaccine-preventable diseases, said she has major concerns about the changes made to the committee. โThis is completely unprecedented,โ she said. โAnd I really donโt think itโs going to have any credibility.โ But she said she is also trying to have โa little bit of wait and seeโ attitude about the new members. โI would say that thereโs a number of them who seem like they are reasonably well qualified, and then there are others of the seven who come with a very clear anti-vaccine agenda and are well known for viewpoints that are really hard to defend based on the scientific merits,โ Kretsinger said. โItโs very disappointing.โACIPโs new agendaThe new ACIP appointees are scheduled to spend two days reviewing safety and efficacy data on COVID-19, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (MMRV), Influenza, Anthrax and Chikungunya vaccines before voting on new immunization recommendations. However, Kulldorff said the committee also plans to commission new working groups dedicated to evaluating the impact of childhood vaccines and investigating the timeline for the recommended administration of Hepatitis B vaccines in newborns. The committee will also be reexamining vaccines that have not been reviewed within the last seven years. โIn addition to studying and evaluating individual vaccines, itโs important to evaluate the cumulative effect of the recommended vaccine schedule,โ Kulldorff said. Thursdayโs agenda also includes a presentation from Lyn Redwood, the former head of Childrenโs Health Defense, an anti-vaccine group founded by Kennedy. Redwood, who is not a CDC employee, is expected to argue that a preservative used in a small portion of flu vaccines, known as thimerosal, causes autism. According to the CDC, research has shown no connection between thimerosal and autism or any other source of harm, and the chemical was taken out of childhood vaccines in the U.S. in 2001.
A US panelโs decision not to recommend the preservative thiomersal wonโt affect vaccine availability in Australia, say experts. But it will stoke dangerous anti-vax sentiment...
Thatโs the question I tackled this week at Gavi, the Vaccine Allianceโs replenishment summit, joining a powerful panel with Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, Dr. Florika Fink-Hooijer, Dr Ibrahima SYย and Derek Wallace.
Iย spoke about how innovation is not only speeding up vaccine development but will also help deliver more equitable access to vaccines. A key driver of this innovation is CEPIโs #100DaysMission, which aims to compress vaccine development timelines to just 100 days.
By moving faster with new approaches, we can create greater equity by delivering vaccines more quickly to those who are most vulnerable before an outbreak, and, therefore, vaccine demand has a chance to spiral out of control. ย #AI, rapid response vaccine platforms and innovative approaches to streamline vaccine manufacturingโthese are just some of the vehicles helping to make this Mission a reality. So, when the next pandemic threat emerges, we are poised and ready to put an end to it swiftly and equitably.
Grateful to Gavi for the invitation to speak at such a pivotal moment for the future of our collective global health security. And hugeย congratulationsย to everyone at Gavi for raising such critical funds during these challenging times. I look forward to continuing our partnership as we work together to create a healthier, fairer future for all.

RFK Jr is the one who has created distrust around vaccines and legitimate scientific experts.
RFK Jr. has the audacity to pretend he is a concerned reformer trying to repair public trust in vaccines but he is the one who has spent over twenty years systematically attacking them. For profit.
RFK Jr. has built a multi-million dollar empire manufacturing vaccine distrust. His organization, Childrenโs Health Defense, raked in over $16 million in 2021 aloneโmoney made by terrifying parents, undermining public health, and selling false solutions.
This isnโt advocacy; itโs a business model. Every vaccine controversy he fabricates, every conspiracy theory he spreads, every scientific institution he attacks leads to donations, book sales, legal fees, speaking fees, and supplement partnerships.
The erosion of trust in vaccines, health agencies, and scientific institutions is an intentional, well-funded, and coordinated disinformation campaign with RFK and his organization, Childrenโs Health Defense, leading the charge.
Now, as HHS Secretary, heโs not changing his businessโheโs expanding it, using he newfound power to implement the agenda that has made him wealthy while endangering public health. Dismantling CDCโs Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is the latest move in his plan.
Do not be fooled. Do not sanitize him. Do NOT call him a vaccine skeptic: he is not a skeptic, he is an anti-vaccine profiteer. (I swear, if I see another media outlet use that phrase I will scream).
Do not erase his long and profitable war on scienceโwhich started with anti-agriculture activism even before he set his sights on vaccines.
โ๐ By 2030, over half of the worldโs unvaccinated children will live in Nigeria and seven other countries.
A new Lancet study (https://lnkd.in/g5KTiyE5) reveals that global progress on childhood immunizations has stagnated โ or even reversed โ since 2010. Factors like the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine misinformation, hesitancy, and persistent health inequities are major contributors. Nigeria is among the eight countries projected to carry the highest burden of unvaccinated children by 2030.
The findings make one thing clear: we are not on track to meet the WHO Immunisation Agenda 2030 goals unless countries implement more equitable and focused strategies.

The conversation about thimerosal got us thinking about how "preservative-free" marketing can actually be misleading.
We're constantly told to choose products with "none of the bad stuff, only the good stuff" - but here's the thing: preservatives aren't the villains they're made out to be. They literally keep the actual bad stuff (dangerous bacteria and fungi) from growing in our vaccines, cosmetics, and food.
Take thimerosal - it was removed from most childhood vaccines over 20 years ago (and was never in MMR vaccines, for those wondering). But it served an important purpose in multi-dose flu vaccine vials, preventing bacterial contamination every time a needle enters the bottle. Yesterday, ACIP voted to only use single-dose vaccines moving forward. This is unlikely to impact flu vaccine supply since less than 5% of flu vaccines even contained thimerosal - but it signals a troubling move towards fear-based policymaking, despite decades of data showing thimerosal was safe at the extremely small doses used in those vaccines.
When companies remove preservatives to make products seem "cleaner," they're not eliminating risk - they're often creating it. Sometimes we have to add something to subtract the real danger. If people truly wanted to avoid harmful substances, they'd want the preservatives that prevent contamination and infection. The "artificial" ingredient is often exactly what protects us from genuine threats.
So when we see "preservative-free" plastered on labels, it doesn't reassure us - it makes us think "buyer beware: increased risk of bacterial contamination."
Kate Shemirani, who rose to notoriety with rabid anti-vax rants, has denied that daughter Paloma was ever diagnosed with the blood cancer that killed her aged 23.
