As teachers and educators we are expected to be on top of the latest trends that can inform and enhance our classroom teaching as well as our professional growth. We are also expected to know the web tools that our students use and the new ones we can use with them in the future;  but this is not always possible and  because not all of our time constraints it becomes difficult to keep up the the new releases . For content marketers that are looking to increase content production and save time, content curation is the answer. In addition, your audience will thank you for exposing them to new sources of 3rd party, independent content. In fact, according to a recent study, best-in-class marketers use a content marketing mix of 65% created content and 25% curated content.

Curation and Assessment

Curation and Assessment | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
A brief discussion of the two major challenges facing edtech.

Assessment, the next generation

Is gaining a degree from a credible university still the benchmark for a good education? Or, is this the start of a new learning journey? A university degree equips you with a certificate and a qualification, but few would deny that many people continue to learn when they are in the workplace. Traditional assessment is broken. My degree may get me an interview, possibly employment, but is it not then that the learning really starts? Is not Life-Long-Learning and CPD (Continuous Professional Development) just as important as any degree to the individual, to the knowledge economy, individual career progression and vocation? How do we benchmark this learning and subsequent assessment in a digital world of resources and experience?

Relationships: Who needs them?

Relationships: Who needs them? | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

I have been thinking lately about professional relationships and what role they play in how we learn as professionals, and as people. It would be difficult to learn much in total isolation.

.

The big picture of this can be overwhelming to a novice. It is a mindset change that requires understanding the culture of connectedness before a real immersion can take place. Educators need a basic knowledge of digital literacy to get started. This will quickly, and very painlessly grow with continued connectedness. There are several connected communities to help educators get started.

.

The Educator’s PLN is a start. www.edupln.com.

.

Twitter is probably the best way to experience the need and benefit to connectedness in developing both professional and personal relationships with other educators. Remember that in a group of like-minded people, as smart as any individual is, the group is always smarter. Of course, if you are reading this online, you are probably already connected and all of this makes sense, since you have already drunk the Kool-aid. Please print it out and share with an unconnected colleague.

.

===> To better educate our kids we need to better educate their educators. <===

Anytime Matt speaks about SEO we should listen. In this video he specifically discusses SEO and content creation. He recommends a separate website page for old blog posts. I assume Google can identify the old content as separate and, therefore, acceptable rather than someone trying to game the system by throwing up a bunch of old or curated content in hopes of improve search engine results on the back of other people's content.

A few years ago, blogging and social media were separate. Blogging was long-form, serious, and crafted. Social media was short-form, personal, and spontaneous. Some people predicted that social media would replace blogging because of declining attention spans.

What is a Personal Learning Network (PLN)?  A Personal Learning Network (PLN) is an informal learning network of professionals, industry thought-leaders or organizations. Building a PLN allows one to connect with others who create, curate and/or share valuable information with the intent to educate others in their community. PLNs allow two or more people, who might not know one another personally, to come together to exchange information.

Connect, Share, Communicate this is how "Personal Learning Network" is defined. But if the point is to be in touch with people, is it accurate to use the word "Personal" ?
