Gust MEES's insight:
![]() It’s an important, and undervalued, journalistic skill
Information overload drives content consumers to look for human-filtered, journalist-vetted, intellectually-related material. This hunger for coherence isn’t unreasonable; it’s essential. And for some of us who think and write every day, gathering bits of thread that can then be elegantly knit into a thoughtful narrative isn’t cheating, or lazy. Far from it. Curating is in many ways harder than writing (at least good curating). It’s far easier for me to write 500 words from my head than to find themes and sources and tie them into a broader narrative. Gust MEES's insight:
THE "Self-Directed" (autodidact) is very important, learning at its own pace and by own design; curation plays a big role there and I recommend to any Learner!
Curation together with Social Media Twitter and a PLN (Personal Learning Network) are an unbeatable Trio!

Some of you may be feeling well overwhelmed by the number of posts I have been presenting recently - and rightly so. I think this little piece is most useful, and provides excellent guidelines for those of us who wish to curate items of particular personal interest that we think are worthy of being shared. Do you agree?

I love curation as it is a possibility to make a quality selection from a certain topic and by giving its own insight one can explain its readers why the choice was made... So it is a better way as search engine results, as the curator has already made a selection of links...

Robin Good: Urlist is a web-based collaborative tool to create, publish and share navigable lists of links.
Links can be easily typed or collected with the complementary bookmarklet tool, and provided with a custom description. URList automatically collects the thumbnail for each one, and the list author decides whether individual items in the list can be commented and rated by viewers.
Items in a list can be easily sorted, moved around and edited at any point and each list can be set to be "public", "private" or "hidden" from public view. Lists can be set to be collaborative so that other users can contribute to them.
Every URlist can be also browsed as a sequence of viewable website links kept in context by a top-of-the-page navigation bar, which allows to move at any moment to any link in the list or to follow the list as it has been organized by the author.

I am very aware of the fact that I am using a digital curation site to highlight external resources about images and Copyright and therefore it seems sensible to highlight some of the pitfalls of this approach. I note that the Scoop.it example does not come out of this too well!
