OpenAI is funding academic research into algorithms that can predict humans’ moral judgements.

In a filing with the IRS, OpenAI Inc., OpenAI’s nonprofit org, disclosed that it awarded a grant to Duke University researchers for a project titled “Research AI Morality.” Contacted for comment, an OpenAI spokesperson pointed to a press release indicating the award is part of a larger, three-year, $1 million grant to Duke professors studying “making moral AI.”

Google unveiled Opal, an experimental tool out of Google Labs that allows developers to create apps using natural language prompts and interactive visual aids, Thursday. Opal harnesses a suite of Google's proprietary AI models to help users create various visual assets for their apps. Gemini 2.5 can assist with the written copy for a blog post, for example, while Veo 3 and Imagen 4 can generate accompanying videos (including audio) or images, respectively.

OpenAI is launching a new general purpose AI agent in ChatGPT, which the company says can complete a wide variety of computer-based tasks on behalf of users. OpenAI says the agent can automatically navigate a user’s calendar, generate editable presentations and slideshows, and run code.

The tool, called ChatGPT agent, combines several capabilities from OpenAI’s previous agentic tools, including Operator’s ability to click around on websites, as well as Deep Research’s ability to synthesize information from dozens of websites into a concise research report.
