OpenAI is buying Jony Ive's startup io Products in a $6.5 billion deal and will bring the chief designer of early iPhones on board as creative head to develop devices tailored for the generative artificial intelligence era.
LoveFrom, the design firm founded by Ive after leaving Apple, has been working with OpenAI for two years on generative AI devices - an area where startups have stumbled due to high computing demands, including flops such as Humane's AI Pin.

Windsurf, the maker of a popular AI coding assistant editor, is in talks to be acquired by OpenAI for about $3 billion, Bloomberg reported.

If the deal happens, it would put OpenAI in direct competition with a number of other AI coding assistant providers, including Anysphere, the maker of Cursor, which OpenAI backed from its OpenAI Startup Fund.

NEW YORK (AP) — Microsoft has completed its acquisition of video game-maker Activision Blizzard for $69 billion, closing one of the most expensive tech acquisitions in history that could have repercussions across the video game industry.

Google has silently acquired a widely-used K-12 data and analytics company.

The tech giant confirmed, in an email to EdSurge, that it's picked up BrightBytes for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition does not appear to have been publicly announced. And Google declined to provide any details, including when the sale had taken place.

But an email about the deal sent by Google to a school district in early May, obtained by EdSurge, cites May 17th as the expected date of the transaction.

The acquisition will help Google to transform school district data “into actionable intelligence to improve the academic and overall well-being of all students,” the email says.

It also states that Google might have updated the policy and privacy terms of use after the acquisition.

Microsoft is acquiring CloudKnox Security to help build out its cloud security and Zero Trust strategy for an undisclosed amount, officials announced on July 21. Officials said they will provide more information on what they'll be doing with CloudKnox's technology as they integrate it with Microsoft's existing identity, security, and compliance services, including Microsoft 365 Defender, Azure Defender, and Azure Sentinel.

CloudKnox Security is based in Sunnyvale, CA. Its security platform supports the monitoring and management of identities, actions, and resources in hybrid and multi-cloud environments, according to its web site. CloudKnow has been a big AWS partner.

Google is buying cybersecurity company Mandiant in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $5.4 billion.

Mandiant’s operations, which draw on the work of more than 600 security consultants and more than 300 intelligence analysts, will be folded into Google Cloud to create an “end-to-end security operations suite.” A range of services will be offered, from consulting on cybersecurity to detecting upcoming threats and testing company’s digital defenses.
