QLIT - A Queer Finding Aid (2024-05-27)

In this webinar, the first of three hosted by the Nordic Network for Queer History Archives and Activities in 2024, we dive deep into the work behind the Queer Literature Indexing Thesaurus (QLIT). Led by the archivist of Sweden’s Archives and Library of the Queer Movement, the session explores how QLIT was developed as a comprehensive tool to make LGBTQI literature more accessible and searchable. Discover how this innovative thesaurus, which includes over 900 specialised terms, is reshaping how queer literature is indexed and searched within library catalogues. The webinar also touches on the challenges of translating these terms across different languages and the importance of inclusivity in literary indexing. Whether you’re a researcher, librarian, or just passionate about queer literature, this presentation offers valuable insights into the intersection of language, literature, and identity.

How to code better… be a man? | LSE Research

Why are there so few women in tech? And does it matter?

We talk to Dr Siân Brooke of the Data Science Institute at LSE, who researches how technologies perpetuate gendered inequality, to find out if it's because men are inherently better coders.

Unsurprisingly, it isn't. In this video, we explore the hidden biases in the tech industry, discover the impact of gender on code acceptance, and investigate why diversity in coding is crucial for innovation and security.
