Witi Ihimaera When I first opened The Parihaka Woman, I thought that there was certainly material for a good historical novel in the Parihaka story but I wondered why Witi Ihimaera was making another attempt at that genre, given all the trouble he had concerning plagiarism with his last novel, The Trowenna Sea, also a historical novel concerned with injustice to Maori.
