The second edition of “Western Sümi Xüghili,” authored by Rev Dr Phughoto Sema was formally released this evening, here at WSBAK Mission Centre. The book title, which translates to ‘History of Western Sümi’ in English, is a revised version. The book gives an account of the formation of the Western Sümis, its present condition and way forward on the future aspirations of the Western Sümis.

Releasing the book, Shikaho Zhimomi, President, Western Sümi Hoho, lauded the author, who is also the present Executive Secretary of WSBAK for bringing out the book which, he deemed, will be invaluable, especially for the Western Sümis. He said the book has been extensively researched and highlights the struggles and trials faced by the forefathers, leading to its inception.

Zhimomi expressed hope that the book will clear any confusion relating to the “who’s who or whereabouts” on the narratives of the Western Sümis.

The book was dedicated by the Principal of Trinity Theological College, Rev Dr Hukato Shohe. In his brief address, he was positive the book will be a valuable and authentic asset for generations to come.

Underscoring that “people without history are no people,” he acknowledged the author for being concerned for his people and brining about a book which demanded in-depth study, time and resources.

Maintaining that writing a book is not an easy task, Publisher of Dimapur Publishing Company, Dr Hitoka said the current edition will be a treasure for the Sümis, especially for the Western Sümi area.

Asserting that the books was not published for the author’s benefit, but for the good of the community, he requested the chieftains, leaders and elders present to share one’s own oral history, and pass on the message of brotherhood back home.

In his brief speech, Dr Phughoto acknowledged everyone who contributed in different ways to the launching of the book.

Sharing his brief journey, he said the narratives were all collected and researched, particularly by way of interviewing elders of the Western Sümis area. “Why I have written this book, is because I want the people to know who we are, and where we are,” he asserted.

The programme was chaired by Nifato Chishi, WSBAK Youth Secretary, while the event was attended by families and close associates.
