Graham Ward's curator insight, February 6, 2015 4:00 AM

The last point is a great one.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 24, 2015 12:44 PM

I chose this resource because, I am not immune to developing anger. I should revisit this in the future as an administrator! "Feeling" anger and not repressing it. And communicating and justifying your anger (in a cool and collected way) is a good way of extinguishing emotions. This is a difficult concept for an educational administrator to do, because staff always look to the principal as a someone who can be rational and logical despite any circumstance.

Why All Managers Must Be Leaders

Why All Managers Must Be Leaders | Transformational Leadership | Scoop.it

Ian Berry's curator insight, April 26, 2015 12:23 AM

I like this. I see though (and my work with clients is about this) in many places a going much further than this. I think both leadership and management are every person's role. The biggest shift happening in remarkable workplaces and a necessity in the new world of work is that people management is a dead concept. Leadership Courage: Creating A Culture Where People Feel Safe To Take Risks

Leadership Courage: Creating A Culture Where People Feel Safe To Take Risks | Transformational Leadership | Scoop.it
The human ingenuity within any organisation are it's greatest competitive advantage. Yet according to the latest statistics, over half of todays workers are disengaged . When leaders are committed and actively working to engage, inspire and embolden – they unleash untapped potential and raise the bar not just on productivity, but on the value their organization contributes to all stakeholders.

Are you a teacher who wants to reach for your highest potential? We are here to help you get there. Contact IteratED for more information on how together we can provide exceptional 21st-century education.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 24, 2015 12:40 PM

"...Human ingenuity within any organization is it's greatest competitive advantage". This quote alone made me scoop this resource. How do we tap into the resource that is our staff? Engaging with them in the classroom and in the hallways to build communication capacity is important. Inspiring staff to take risks is a tricky enterprise - leaders must value this sort of behavior. This means that attempts which result in failure must be cherished, not scrutinized as they often tend to be.

Has a quiz too. This is great for any person that mamages people, or a College student working in groups. good to know.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 24, 2015 12:34 PM

I scooped this article because it relates to the concepts of leadership style detailed in the book "SuperVision". Yes, all leaders have a tendency to favor a particular leadership style, however, different methods are justified in different circumstances (especially in education). Something profound in this article is the idea that it is MORE difficult to transition from a democratic style to a authoritarian style of leadership. I also believe, that participative, shared leaderhship should be the default. When trust is cultivated with shared leadership it is more likely that staff will have faith that authoritarian decisions are done in the best interests of all.

Ian Berry's curator insight, April 19, 2015 9:49 PM

Big words paradigm and transformational. The later is an outcome of several transitions which start with a decision to change. The former is really about intention, feeling and thinking change which precede the behaviourial change that is key to the transitions from what is to what can be

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 24, 2015 12:24 PM

I scooped this article because I have always believed that the wheels off change tend to spin slowly. In education, a "paradigm shift" is a cliche' often used to describe any new, profound idea. Yet, any change that occurs tends to be gradually implemented and getting everyone on board is a difficult and tedious process that simply requires time in most instances.

I chose this resource because I like the implications of the title. A manufacturing plant's ultimate product is whatever rolls off the end of the production line. In education, learning is the ultimate product, but conceptual understanding is not tangibly apparent without a "product" that we can see or recognize. What evidence that students are producing suggests that they understand? Also, i like the implication that substantial and worthwhile work results in learning for both the student AND the teacher.
