True, reflection is a key. I have had an accident when I was 15 years of age that left me on a hospital bed for a long time. I had plenty of time to reflect there about my life and what I want to do with it ... When I got out of that hospital, I was a changed man. I keep a journal now and it still continues to make a difference in my life. Reflecting on what is happening ... What made a difference? Rule number 1 - know yourself, Rule number 2 - know who you want to become, Rule number 3 - work towards that vision with patience until you start seeing the fruits of your work. It works, but it takes time and effort :-)

An interesting blog post to help improve your leadership skills by using different linguistic techniques, such as encouraging contributions, motivating others and retaining a positive attitude. However, this blog post only covers a few linguistic strategies compared to how many techniques one can essentially use. For more information visit http://leadershiptalk.blogs.aston.ac.uk/ |

Yersterday at a conference I heard the following defintion of leadership: "The ability to communicate a compelling state of affairs in a way that produces followers." i.e. Cast a vision that people are excited about, believe in, want to get on board with, help make happen, etc.
The other definition I was challenged by was the definition of a "stronghold.": "A mindset, value system or thought process that hinders your growth."
This is an interesting article about leadership and what the author contends get in the way of a leaders setting vision.
Our goal in our Vistage groups should be, is supposed to be an environment where our answers get questioned. Where we remove stumbling blocks, blinders, and strongholds. We can't cast a compelling vision until we can see it ourselves. Think about it.

Comment fonctionne l'interieur d'un leader d'opinion? Nous ressemble t-il? Quelles sont ses differences?

Fake confidence until you make it! People - yes! Especially starting on the road to leadership, there are times when you may not feel like what you have to say is as important as those around you. Fake it until you make it. Confidence that is.

Interesting read. Do you value humor in your leaders? As a leader, is it important to incorporate humor with interactions with colleagues? Something to think about...

Mindful leaders are fully present in the moment; locally focused and attentively listening with the other person's best interest at heart.

Be fully present with each person you encounter. I try to listen with my heart and keep my emotions at bay.

This is a great article....it should remind both the leader and others that it takes open communication. Trust has to be offered by leadership as the first gesture and then respectfully taken up by others in a truly constructive criticism tone in order for this to work. Peter Senge talked about the vital role that dissenting voices provide and how wise organizations make sure they have this input.

Thought provoking and promotes the idea that leaders need to be brave enough to welcome dissention.

It is so important to teach your employees to speak truth to power. If your management team has 10 people and they ALL agree with you ALL of the time, then 9 are redundant. It's the ability to harnass a variety of perspectives that distinguishes a high performing team. |
