If you follow the news you can find a litany of examples of poor leadership. People are distrustful or cynical of today's leadership and many times with good reason. That's why being an authentic leader is so important.

You should read this article because it's one of the few on school reform that goes "blue sky, no holds barred" kind of thinking. Whether what the author suggests will work where you live is then worth thinking about and comparing.
Possibility thinking.

We have to change as society's needs change. We can't become stuck in an old educational system just because it worked for us.

Not a new concept at all, but it reminded me of what leadership and high performing teams are all about. I've done my job managing with my team when I can leave them without worry, knowing they will get on fine without me. |

There’s a big problem with our communication-happy world. We put a premium on frequency and content while sacrificing something perhaps more important: the delivery. Of course what you say and write matters, but how you say it, how you relate to people, is what separates great leaders from the pack.

Very interesting reflection on how tablets are changing the way young people learn. It cautions the reader against consumption type apps for toddlers and preschoolers and raises concerns about how our current education system will deal with Les Tablettistes.
As a parent of the tablet savy preschool generation and an educator it emphasizes the immediacy of the need for change in our current system. My tablet gurus will be in post-secondary in a short 12 years. Will we be ready for them? Will their grade one teacher even be ready?

Dear Susan, I just wanted to say that I am a big fan! I really enjoyed this article. I agree that a transformational experience is when a person changes. Like a jolt -- the experience has changed the way they look at a situation or themself and now their choices and decisions follow. Thank you for your inspirational posts and messages! Patricia D. An article that would also be useful for teachers as they plan their lessons.

This week marks the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. We have an opportunity to reflect on many important leadership lessons that are as relevant today as they were in 1863. Let's consider three:

Studies have shown that most employees quit their boss rather than quitting the job or company. This article shows the importance of employee engagement and trust as factors in the growth of companies. The bottom line is that an employee who is constantly looking over his shoulder will never reach full potential. The individual and the organization will suffer.
So… how do you build trust within an organization? |
