“This time of year, all these reservoirs are going down. We’re using them in their evaporating,” said Chuck Brown, CEO of Hydro Corporation. “So, for it to be the same that it was a month ago is great.”

The city of Jacksonville posted an alert to its website Friday, May 30 informing residents that the city’s public water system had exceeded the maximum contaminant level. According to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the city’s water exceeded the level for trihalomethanes.

Aubrey Spear, general manager for the river authority, said the authority reached out to Conroe last year about providing an additional 1.5 million gallons of water a day. However, he said the authority was "hesitant" to release the water until an agreement is reached on the payment of back-owed fees the city has collected from customers but not paid to the river authority.

City plans to fully replace water metering system by the end of year

This summer, the City of Greenville will begin the process of fully replacing its existing water metering system with a more advanced one. The Greenville City Council approved the project in April with the intention being that the new system would allow both GEUS and customers to monitor usage more frequently and keep better track of leaks and other problems.
