Most of us will have a story to tell about a journey gone wrong.
Perhaps a delayed flight led to a missed car rental pick-up, or an overnight cancellation left us paying for an unused hotel room. Sometimes it can seem as if these frustrations are almost part of the travel experience – but does it have to be this way?
Many of the issues we face when we travel come down to a lack of connectivity among travel providers, with privacy concerns, limited technical interoperability and siloed data having proved a challenge to overcome. As a result, many travel providers continue to focus on a specific section of a trip at the expense of the whole traveler journey.
But things can be different. If we are able to connect each section of the journey, we can build a cohesive journey, offering full visibility to all parties. This world is within reach.

Decarbonization is a critical response to climate change. It comprises two elements: first, reducing the amount of CO2 and other greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere, and second, actively removing CO2 from the atmosphere, whether at the point of emissions (point source capture) or from the air (direct air capture, or DAC).
But how does decarbonization work more broadly, and what can companies do to contribute meaningfully to carbon reduction and removal? In this Explainer, we’ll delve into the financial and technical approaches used to limit and remove the carbon in our atmosphere.

Navigating the implications of climate change will likely be among the travel industry’s biggest challenges in the coming decade. A combination of escalating environmental regulations, rising consumer and corporate demand for sustainability, and travel destinations’ increasing vulnerability to extreme weather call for greater strategic attention to environmental impact.
Key takeaways
Climate-related pressures are among three major concerns leaders must contend with, according to a new Deloitte report that also highlights the potential of artificial intelligence along with big shifts in the demographic makeup of the traveling public; Younger, tech-savvy, and socially conscious generations are set to surpass boomers in terms of spending and influence within the industry. While boomers remain a lucrative demographic, they are beginning to age out of frequent travel; Interest in sustainable travel is consequently growing as millennials and Gen Z become dominant consumer groups. More young travelers say they seek lower-emission flights and hotels with sustainability certifications.

"Travelers are ‘rewriting their playbook’ in 2025; Defying the rules of conventional getaways, and as a result, forging new connections with themselves, their loved ones, those they meet along the way, as well as the destinations they visit. Whether rewriting the norms of age, gender, or simply what society thinks travel should look like for them, emboldened travelers are breaking out of familiar patterns and using their individual journeys to fuel and find long-lasting personal growth. To understand out how people plan to break away from the status quo, Booking.com commissioned research among more than 27,000 travelers across 33 countries and territories to present nine travel predictions which foresee 2025 being the year that ushers in new ways of experiencing the world – from millennials rethinking the airport experience to thrill-seeking boomers."

The gastronomic industry is undergoing a revolution, as entrepreneurs redefine how food businesses operate by intertwining culinary art with social impact. Instead of merely serving delicious meals, pioneers like The Melting Pot Foundation, Thought for Food, and Comida para Todos have transformed restaurants and food systems into platforms for community empowerment, social responsibility, and innovation. We had the pleasure to host the entrepreneurs behind these ventures for a panel discussion at EHL Hospitality Business School and they demonstrated that food businesses can be more than profit-driven; they can become vehicles for meaningful change.

As companies continue to adapt to this shift, many are realizing that traditional work models are no longer viable. Office towers and cubicles are quickly becoming a thing of the past. It's not just employees who are driving this change - 31% of U.S. employers have fully embraced remote work.
Key takeaways
With millions of people no longer commuting daily, the ripple effect on industries that rely on business travel is significant. Major cities such as New York and Singapore stand to lose a significant number of business travelers, impacting not only leisure tourism, but more importantly, corporate travel; An impressive 13% of employees plan to work remotely from another country for at least a month, and one in four companies already allow employees to work from anywhere. The travel and hospitality industry must adapt to this new reality; The once-reliable business traveler who formed the backbone of hotel chains, airlines, and urban restaurants is now more likely to zoom in from a tropical beach or a rural Airbnb. As a result, the economic landscape is changing dramatically. nderpinnings of our major conurbations are beginning to fray.

Loyalty is one of the most desired – and elusive – elements of a marketing strategy for travel sellers.
Airlines and hospitality companies in particular strive to become the brand of choice for consumers booking flights and stays, and they reward those repeat customers by offering them the chance to earn and burn points in return for that relationship.
According to Phocuswright’s report, Travel rewards vs. loyalty what’s the difference?, “Trusted, emotionally founded customer relationships not only help travel sellers create satisfaction and long-term loyalty, but spur profitability through improved retention, margin and customer lifetime value.”

Luxury travel will generate $239 billion in revenue in 2023, and McKinsey predicts it will grow to $391 billion by 2028. But who qualifies as a luxury traveler? According to McKinsey, it's anyone who typically spends more than $500 per night on hotel accommodations.
Key takeaways
McKinsey's analysis of luxury travel trends reveals that today's luxury travelers are not necessarily as old or as wealthy as previously thought. The report challenges several common assumptions about this market segment; One misconception is that luxury travelers are extremely wealthy. In reality, 35% of this market is made up of individuals with a net worth between $100,000 and $1 million; These "aspirational" luxury travelers may splurge on special occasions, favor recognizable luxury brands, seek value for their money and prioritize loyalty program points and benefits; Another evolving belief is that luxury travelers are predominantly from Europe and the United States. However, rising affluence in Asia is fueling a surge in regional hotel development, reflecting a shift in the luxury travel landscape.
